Backup and Recovery Service for Servers (BaRS)

The data backup and recovery service for servers, also known as BaRS, is a SaaS solution that automatically and securely backs up your system daily. BaRS is provided by Client Technology Solutions and Consulting in University IT (UIT).

Features

Versatile system coverage. The BaRS service conducts backups for a variety of systems, including: 

  • Virtual machines (agentless backup) 
  • Linux, Windows files and folders on physical servers
  • Databases, such as Oracle and MS SQL
  • Network Attached Storage (NAS) devices 
  • Network File System (NFS) exported volumes or Common Internet File System (CIFS) shares

Data protection. Backup data is encrypted while in flight and while stored in the cloud. The communication between client and service is secured through TLS encryption.

Simple and reliable data recovery. If you accidentally overwrite or delete a file, you can recover it yourself using the secure application console. Data recovery is available 24/7.

Requirements

Service subscription required.

Data security

May be used to store Low, Moderate, and High Risk Data, including High Risk PHI, as defined by the Information Security Office.

The BaRS service is available by subscription and charged monthly to your department’s UIT billing statement. Software license fees and ongoing software maintenance are included.

To subscribe to the BaRS service, contact your local system administrator (LNA) or submit a request

In the OrderIT request, please include the following details: 

  • Number of systems to be backed up
  • Location 
  • Contact information
  • Name of the systems 

Get help

The backup service is monitored 24x7 for performance and component failures. Service administrators are alerted to failures and respond to alerts.

For assistance or to learn more about BaRS, please submit a Help ticket.

To cancel BaRS service, submit a Help request. Be sure to provide the name of the machine(s) that should no longer be backed up.
