  • A similar form revenue management (price discrimination) is to deny requests of economy class passengers to move to empty seats in premium economy, business class, etc. There would be no loss to the airline at that moment to allow the free upgrade (assume the meal and other service would still be economy class in the new seat), but as rumours spread that free upgrades have higher probability, fewer people would buy premium seats, hoping to get them for free instead.
