1Thanks very much! Do the border agents strictly control the essential travel requirements for people walking from San Diego into tijuana via pedeast or otay? (My car's windows are tinted so I don't want to bring my car to mexico as I've read border agents may remove the tints due to some Mexican anti-tint, pro-skin-cancer law).– Franck DernoncourtCommented Sep 27, 2020 at 18:22

2@FranckDernoncourt I've only heard of a few people being turned back trying to enter Mexico (not people I know personally), and I've only heard of it happening on US holiday weekends as this is when there is an influx of tourist visits. I don't know if the border guards are strict for people entering Mexico on foot. Personally I would be surprised if it happened, but I have no experience with this– MidavaloCommented Sep 27, 2020 at 18:29

1@FranckDernoncourt We always lower ALL our openable windows every time we cross the border (both directions) and never had issues. The windows on our vehicle are dark (factory tinted) and we're often asked to open doors/windows so they can see in the car and never had any mention about the tint.(at border and at police/military checkpoints).– MidavaloCommented Sep 27, 2020 at 18:33

1@FranckDernoncourt we've never had any issue with the tint, at the border or at checkpoints - it's never been a concern for us to think twice about. We go through the border with windows open so that we're less likely to be stopped for inspection. We have a large SUV, and large vehicles are more likely to be stopped to see if you're bringing anything across the border. If we open all the windows they can easily see into the vehicle and I guess they assume we have nothing to hide.– MidavaloCommented Sep 27, 2020 at 18:44

1... Since we started doing this 2-3 years ago we may have been stopped for inspection once (if that?); Before that we were stopped many many times.– MidavaloCommented Sep 27, 2020 at 18:44

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. air-travel), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
