  • "I live in Japan with a spouse visa, and thus could be considered a resident of Japan": I would say "I live in Japan with a spouse visa, so I am a resident of Japan." It doesn't seem that you could be considered a resident of any other place.

    @phoog Depending on where else he may have lived over the past couple of years, he could certainly be considered a resident of one or more other countries, at least for tax purposes.
