Nov 13, 2019 at 9:10 comment added David Richerby @com.prehensible Visa agents are often a terrible idea: we get many questions here from people who are in a huge mess because their visa agent told them to lie or lied on their behalf without telling them. And the UK not being in Schengen is hardly a "visa technicality".
Nov 12, 2019 at 22:04 comment added David Richerby @com.prehensible "I... wasn't aware of the exception to the schengen zone which is the UK" There are six countries in the EU that are not in Schengen, and four countries that are in Schengen but not in the EU. Your answer and comments contain multiple significant errors.
Nov 12, 2019 at 13:22 comment added bain Cycle touring is probably the cheapest way to be a tourist. There are some cost figures from real cycle tours at How Much Does it Cost to Cycle Round the World? - it can be very cheap - e.g. a 15 month tour of Europe at a cost of £56/month. Alastair Humphreys cycled around the world for over 4 years and wrote a book - cost £135/month. Cycle touring may be more effort than travelling on trains, staying in hotels, etc. but it is accessible to low income travellers.
Nov 12, 2019 at 8:09 comment added ave It may be difficult to get a visa if you don't have any documents showing where you will stay in these countries, especially if your financial state isn't good enough to stay in a hotel if you needed to. It may be wiser, if possible, to visit the friend once with a simple travel plan (visit friend for a couple days in Germany, then return) then visit again for something more complex (like Via Rhona) so that you have a good enough track record for ties to your country.
Nov 11, 2019 at 19:20 comment added bandybabboon The official woofing websites simply don't agree with you, they state that the wwoof visa depends on the country, and the french woof site says that a tourist visa is fine for wwoof community work. food and accomodation are not an accepted form of payment for any kind of work in the EU afaik.
Nov 11, 2019 at 18:11 comment added Bilkokuya This is simply untrue - you so not need to be paid for it to be considered work (and in this case, OP would be getting paid - in kind - via food, accommodation etc.) Whether or not OP would be caught out for it - it's not something we can recommend they do. This answer covers it fairly well: travel.stackexchange.com/questions/112520/…
Nov 11, 2019 at 17:32 comment added bandybabboon Community work is not paid, hence not work, and counts as a social experience. Oh yes MadHatter. I am in France and wasn't aware of the exception to the schengen zone which is the UK, not obvious. It's true about Estonia and regional differences, It's what is meant. I was in India and found it very travel friendly, hence the motivation to write a helpful answer regarding costs, I advised seeing an indian visa agent for the full info because they are pro.
Nov 11, 2019 at 17:13 comment added Bilkokuya "you can an organization in Europe which will place you with a family or a farm or a community project, or a building project, or some kind of working project where everyone helps everyone out and there are common meals at the end of the day" - this would be counted as work for the purpose of the Schengen Visa, and so would not be allowed (even volunteering is counted as work for this visa). If you're recommending OP gets a work visa, it should be made clear.

Nov 11, 2019 at 12:54 comment added MadHatter @com.prehensible "russians can start their schengen journey in estonia very easily compared to the UK" I do not advise anyone, Russian or not, to try starting a Schengen journey in the UK, because the UK isn't in the Schengen area, and doesn't issue Schengen visas. I take your point, but the error makes what you wrote appear as rather a disposable and under-informed comment, which it might not actually be.
Nov 11, 2019 at 12:50 comment added J... @com.prehensible Funds parking is only likely to hurt a visa application - not help it.
Nov 11, 2019 at 12:21 comment added bandybabboon In france it is legal to bivouac nearly anywhere... it means that you undo your tent every morning, travel or whatever, dont stay the day at your camp, dont leave pollution... Sleeping in wilds is perfectly legal in France and many other eu states. and India too. 1/figure of speech 2/ cyclists learn to wash with 2 liters of water and soap after 5 hours of bike. Washing that salty sweat off every day and rinsing with a liter is paradise itself. A river is luxury. ... what is being globalized in Europe feminine safety and local customs.
Nov 11, 2019 at 9:22 comment added BЈовић 1. in most of EU countries is forbidden to do free camping, also have you even slept in a wood? 2. wash in a river? LOL
Nov 11, 2019 at 8:53 comment added Patricia Shanahan See Article 21(5) in the Schengen Visa Code which bases required "means of subsistence" on "average prices in the Member State(s) concerned for board and lodging in budget accommodation"
Nov 11, 2019 at 7:28 comment added bandybabboon The rules vary by country. For example, russians can start their schengen journey in estonia very easily compared to the UK. Indeed, there are different kinds of visas, including family visit or invitation... Generally you will have to hire an Indian tourist agency who will know about EU visas inside out, and they will get it for you or not based on your wages. 190 is essentially prohibitive if you can't raise 700 and put it in your bank for a 30 day visa.
Nov 11, 2019 at 6:42 comment added Ben How exactly is Visa connected to income/fortune? Are the rules the same everywhere in Europe or is it different per country?
Nov 10, 2019 at 22:00 comment added Willeke One problem is that if you do not have enough income at home, you do not get visa, no matter how cheap you can actually travel.
