In its UPSC CSE Prelims notice, the Commission stated, "All of these candidates (who have qualified) must reapply using the Detailed Application Form-I (DAF-I) for the Civil Services (Main) Examination, 2024. The Commission's website will be updated in due course with the dates and important instructions for filling out the DAF-I and submitting it."

Any participation in the Preliminary Examination for the Civil Services counts as one attempt towards the total number of permissible attempts for the Civil Services Examination. This rule applies to all candidates appearing for the Prelims, regardless of whether they qualify for the Main Examination.

Candidates eligible for the Civil Services Examination (CSE) are typically allowed six attempts to clear the exam. However, special provisions exist for candidates belonging to the SC/ST, OBC, and Persons with Benchmark Disability (PwBD) categories. SC/ST candidates have unlimited attempts, while OBC and PwBD candidates are allowed up to nine attempts, ensuring equitable opportunities across different categories.

In exceptional cases, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) may consider candidates who lack the typical qualifications for the Civil Services Examination. To proceed to the UPSC Civil Services Main Examination, candidates declared qualified in the Preliminary Examination must furnish proof of passing the requisite qualifying examination. This proof, issued by the closing date of the Detailed Application Form-I for the Main Examination, is mandatory for admission.

This year the UPSC Pre result 2024 has been declared today, on July 1, 2024. The UPSC Prelims Exam dates and their respective result dates over the past five years are as follows:

Applicants may still apply to the Civil Services Examination even if they have accomplished their internship but not their final professional M.B.B.S. or comparable medical examination.
