Since the first national political conventions were broadcast in 1924, we’ve heard every presidential candidate—from Calvin Coolidge to John F. Kennedy to George W. Bush to Barack Obama—declare, “I accept this nomination.”
For nearly a century, American voters have gotten used to the sound of candidates from the two major political parties rallying behind the politicians they choose to see their side to victory in November. In many ways, the political conventions kick off the final stretch of the lengthy race to the White House.
In the coming weeks, as the political elite gather at their respective conventions, we’ll likely hear those same words spoken by Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. Watch candidates accept the nod over the years in the video above.
