Cleveland Police Union Seeks Ban on Open Carrying of Weapons During RNC

1 minute read

The leader of the police union in Cleveland, Ohio on Sunday said he plans to ask Ohio’s governor to temporarily ban all open carrying of weapons this week during the Republican National Convention.

The request from Cleveland Police Union President Steve Loomis follows the fatal shooting in Baton Rouge, La., which left at least three police officers dead and three others wounded.

Tens of thousands of protesters are expected to demonstrate outside the GOP convention, which will last from July 18-21.

Loomis warned of danger to law enforcement officers and said he’s also demanding that officers work in groups of threes instead of working solo shifts at intersections as part of the RNC security, according to Fox 8 Cleveland.
