Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton Want to Catch Voters With Pokémon Go

2 minute read

The world is obsessed with Pokémon Go — and now it’s officially found a way into the 2016 presidential campaign.

Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump started a Pokémon battle with Hillary Clinton on Thursday, after the Democrat mentioned the game in a campaign speech.

Clinton delivered a timely Pokemon joke at a campaign stop in Annandale, Va. telling the crowd, “I don’t know who created Pokemon Go, but I’m trying to figure out how we get them to have Pokemon Go…to the polls.”

The Trump campaign decided it would one-up Clinton, posting a video to Facebook showing a mock-Pokemon Go game called “Crooked Hillary No,” in which a user attempts to catch clinton.

Pokémon Go is a wildly popular, augmented reality version of the popular Pokémon franchise, allowing users to literally explore the world around them, catching Pokémon through use of their cell phone camera.

Clinton’s Ohio campaign has taken to using the game to connect with millennials, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

The campaign has set up shop at Pokestops, the real-life sites that players must visit to obtain in-game items .

Upon the release of Pokémon Go, the campaign canvassed Ohio looking for players who may not be registered to vote, reports the Enquirer, and the Clinton campaign says it sees this as an opportunity to reach millennial voters who may not be with her.

Even the Michigan Republican Party is getting involved, encouraging players to go door-to-door campaigning while they are out catching Pokémon.
