Journalism that Makes an Impact: Report for America

BOSTON – Many journalism students about to graduate are filled with hope and anxiety about what comes next. Their wishes could be fulfilled by a seven-year old non-profit that would to hire them. Report for America was created in 2017, with a mission to solve the issue of the lack of local journalism.

Navigating Law & Ethics Within Journalism

BOSTON – Navigating Law and Ethics of journalism is a topic that has come up often in today’s climate, especially with the use of cell phones, social media, and other forms of instant communication. Protecting and exercising your rights as a journalist is extremely important when covering stories, especially those that can be controversial.

Freelancing in the Modern World

Boston – Working full-time for a traditional media company might not be as attractive as it once was. Doug Struck has worked for the Baltimore Sun & Washington post, leaving the post to freelance. He told the panel on “The Business of Journalism” at the SPJ New England regional conference that he quickly realized that freelancing was not the way to make it big.
