First, I should say that there is really a lot to like about this game. The story is decent, most of the character acting is good, the design and the creatures and most of the gameplay is great as well. But there are far too many flaws to call this a "great" game.

First, the game mechanics are sloppy. There is a "run" button, but there really is no run in this game. A huge creature could be chasing you, and the best you can do is a mild jog. And when you get up close to enemies, everything gets muddled. You can so easily get pined into a corner, only to find the buttons you were using for escaping or fighting or firing, now relate to something else. Close up combat is just depressing. And there is no strafe at all! If you want to avoid something, you have to be perfectly positioned, then try your "mild jog" to get out of the way. Started in the wrong part of the room? Well, too bad, you're dead.

There are some amazing weapons and the usage and upgrades are really well done, but good luck trying to find any ammo. I got through chapter 10 and I almost never have more than 10 shotgun shells, more often less than 5. And despite the constantly talking blah blah blah blabbing merchant....he sells zero, that's right zero ammo. You have to craft each bullet yourself, like a piece of gold, and if you're lucky, that will give you 7, which will be gone before you see the next room. When I finally got tired of playing, and was nearing chapter 11, I had close to zero bullets in any weapon. 6 guns and no ammo...how fun.

There are other trite game play issues, like constantly throwing you into a battle and closing the door behind you automatically, or dropping you into a pit, so you have to fight with no cover. And the railroading of the game movement, where you have to use a specific path, when you can see another route that would require stepping up onto something you are not allowed to. I realize, it's not an open world game, so it is what it is.

The "boss" type characters are also really annoying. Each one is essentially, "Here's a ridiculously huge creature that could kill you in 1/2 second, also you have almost no ammo, also ammo won't really work anyway, there is a trick you have to find, I hope you enjoy dying a lot until you find that trick." Is this fun?!

I did like the game, but it's well overrated and could have been so much better with some fixes of the above. As it is it'll have to be one of the few FPS games I didn't care enough to finish.
