WAN vs. LAN

What is WAN?

A Wide Area Network (WAN) is a network that exists over a large-scale geographical area. Your modem sends and receives information to and from the internet through its WAN port.

What is LAN?

A Local Area Network (LAN) is the collection of wired and Wi-Fi connected devices in your home or office. This is your personal network. Your computer, phone, tablet, router, etc. make up your LAN.

Where are the WAN and LAN ports?

The WAN  and LAN  ports are found on the bottom of your Google Nest router or Google Wifi point. Google Nest Wifi points do not have WAN or LAN ports.

If you have a TP-Link OnHub, twist the outer shell counterclockwise and lift to reveal the ports. If you have an ASUS OnHub, the ports are near the base on the back.
