I've installed nvidea drivers:

sudo ubuntu-drivers install

After that I lost network adapter and sound drivers. I've solved problem with network driver, but I can't find any information what to do with sound drivers. I tried:

sudo apt-get remove --purge alsa-base
sudo apt-get remove --purge pulseaudio
sudo apt-get install alsa-base
sudo apt-get install pulseaudio
sudo alsa force-reload

But it didn't help. What I have now:

pavel@home:~$ lshw -C multimedia

Usually you don't need to install drivers because they are part of the kernel. You may want to check dmesg / journalctl -k to see if there's any error (e.g. firmware missing in some cases). How does lspci -k look? Does modprobe snd-hda-intel give any error?

  • @TomYan Thank you for your help. dmesg doesn't show any erros. I've added information - please, see Update 1

Is the package linux-modules-extra-5.15.0-88-generic installed? See if (re-)installing it help. (Try modprobe snd-hda-intel again after the installation.)

@TomYan I installed linux-modules-extra-5.15.0-88-generic - it wasn't installed. Now, sound works. Thank you very much for your help. If you make an answer I will accept it.

Apparently for at least kernel version 5.15.0-88 in Ubuntu Focal (20.04), kernel modules are shipped in two packages, namely linux-modules-5.15.0-88-generic and linux-modules-extra-5.15.0-88-generic. Most of the sound driver modules are shipped in the latter, while only the former is depended by the "main" kernel package linux-image-5.15.0-88-generic.

Because I'm not exactly familiar with Ubuntu, I have no idea whether you'll need to install the corresponding linux-modules-extra package explicitly again if you get a kernel update / upgrade later. Sometimes there are "meta packages" that take care of this sort of thing.

Wow! My volume icon only showed "Dummy Soundcard" I tried so many commands, so many things, I was even thinking in update kernel or reinstall the system....but this post solved with a only command:

sudo modprobe snd-hda-intel

Thank you very much! :-)
