3Microsoft says here about PowerdownAfterShutdown : "Windows 2000 does not use this entry. The entry remains in the registry to support programs designed for Windows NT 4.0 and earlier". This is old.– harrymcCommented Jun 14, 2013 at 8:23

While i do admit that the solution sounds unlikely, it is worth a try. The system in my situation was Windows 7 Pro x86– Nathan KerrCommented Jun 14, 2013 at 13:01

In Windows 7 this entry doesn't exist in the registry, so I don't understand how you could have found it in your registry, unless you installed some old product that added it in.– harrymcCommented Jun 14, 2013 at 13:50

I actually had this entry in my registry and it was set to 0, but I switched it to 1, rebooted and then shut down again and it didn't seem to have any effect unfortunately.– 0xFECommented Jun 14, 2013 at 22:19

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. windows-7), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
