Aug 8, 2021 at 16:47 comment added Razaman This helped, but after reopening the file the problem was the same. Fixing this steps and then saving as .doc (not .docx) helped but also after saving in .docx format I got the bug back. My solution was to upload the file to microsoft account (outlook, live, hotmail) and open it online. To be able to open it online it needs conversion and changing to .dotx format, which is done automatically. This was a final sollution. After that .dotx file worked permanently

Jun 16, 2017 at 15:35 comment added ThatMatthew @catdotgif In addition, I had to select the heading text including the paragraph marker at the end and click Update to Match Selection. It finally persisted the change after closing and reopening the document. I'm using Word 2013.

Mar 13, 2017 at 18:49 comment added catdotgif This worked for me until I re-opened the file. What worked permanently for me was to do this above, then right click on the problem style in the Style Gallery and select "Update to Match Selection". What a mess.

May 31, 2016 at 15:55 comment added Kevin Schroeder Also note that the left arrow is required as well. The mouse seems to be useless at this point.
