Double-check the file itself on Virustotal. It claims the page itself is clean, but as I can't read any of it, I've no clue what you'd have to click to activate anything - virustotal.com/gui/url/…– TetsujinCommented Apr 5, 2020 at 12:15

@Tetsujin Interestingly enough, Chrome on Linux doesn't let me download the software from the website because it detects the malware. It didn't stop it on windows.– Lara FronerCommented Apr 5, 2020 at 12:18

@Tetsujin Downloaded with Firefox, it gives this result: virustotal.com/gui/file/…– Lara FronerCommented Apr 5, 2020 at 12:21

I wouldn't take my word for it, but if it's some dodgy crack for a game, the fact that half the results show different 'positives' & the other half show it as clean makes it something in the code that shares similarities with known viruses, but probably isn't one. Lots of cracks show up like that. Though, as I said, it's not absolute proof either way.– TetsujinCommented Apr 5, 2020 at 12:28

If you are in possession of an outbound application-based firewall [idk too much about Windows firewalls], just prevent it from 'phoning home'.– TetsujinCommented Apr 5, 2020 at 12:32

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. windows-7), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
