Yesterday, Brett Engler, Chief of the Domestic Violence Unit, presented a case study at NOVA’s (National Organization for Victim Advocacy) annual Conference with Maggie Henderson, Victim Services Supervisor at the Frederick County Sheriff's Office, MD - Integrity Driven • Community Built. They highlighted best practices in intimate partner violence investigation and prosecution. They were joined by the survivor who detailed their journey from victimization to freedom, and highlighted the life-saving efforts of Frederick’s coordinated community response.Heartly House

This morning, ASA Tammy Leache, Chief ASA Special Victims Unit Lindsey Carpenter and Domestic Violence Unit, Victim Witness Coordinator, Kimberly Murdock accompanied Gladys Lemus, to The Healing Garden (Bonita Maas Park) in downtown Frederick. Located on 7 West 2nd Street, the garden is managed by the Friends of the Child Advocacy Center and was designed to remember Frederick County Children who have died as a result of child abuse. Today, in Frederick County Circuit Court, justice was served for Gladys’ infant son, James, who died on June 17, 2020 as a result of child abuse inflicted upon him by his father, Jesse Cook.
