"All I can tell you, is I have scanned Master Yoda three times and I find nothing wrong with him. I am not an expert on his biology, but from my point of view, he is in perfect health."
―Doctor Rig Nema[1]

Rig Nema was a female Jedi doctor stationed in the Jedi Temple during the Clone Wars. She took care of Yoda when the Grand Master started to hear the disembodied voice of Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn, who had been killed by the Sith Lord Darth Maul about twelve years earlier.

Biography[]

"I am prescribing nothing but bed rest for you now, Master Yoda."
―Doctor Rig Nema[1]

Rig Nema, a female humanoid, served the Jedi Order as a doctor at the Jedi Temple on Coruscant during the last years of the Galactic Republic.[1]

Doctor Nema, along with Obi-Wan Kenobi, is watching over Yoda.

Around 20 BBY,[2] Doctor Nema received Grand Master Yoda as a patient. The other members of the Jedi High Council were worried about Yoda's behavior after he revealed to them that he heard the voice of the late Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn. Ki-Adi-Mundi thought that it was some trick created by the Sith to infiltrate and strike a blow against the Jedi.[1]

Nema found that Yoda was in good health, but also noticed that a region of his brain was particularly active. Master Mundi expressed his concern once again, telling Mace Windu and Obi-Wan Kenobi that the deep connection between Yoda and Count Dooku—who used to be trained by the Grand Master—could have allowed the Sith Lord to manipulate Yoda's mind.[1]

DeprivationRitual

The deprivation ritual

Doctor Nema suggested to put Yoda through a deprivation ritual, so he could find the real source of the voice he heard. Yoda was subsequently brought into a bacta tank, progressively deprived of oxygen, so he could enter a deep meditation state, while on the brink of death. When that happened, Jinn's spirit communicated with Yoda once more and advised him to travel to Dagobah.[1]

Jedi Knight Anakin Skywalker later helped Yoda escape the Jedi Temple before Doctor Nema could notice his absence. She and Mace Windu arrived too late to the hangar to stop the fleeing Master, who was just leaving with his starfighter and Skywalker's astromech droid, R2-D2.[1]

Personality and traits[]

"I would like to suggest something: a deprivation ritual. It is a dangerous procedure, but one that will without question allow Yoda to go to the source of this voice whatever, whoever it may be."
―Doctor Rig Nema[1]

Jedi Doctor Rig Nema was a humanoid female with golden eyes and yellow skin. She proved to be competent and meticulous, always checking Master Yoda's vital signs and making reports on his health to the rest of the Jedi Council.[1]

She did not hesitate to suggest dangerous methods, such as the deprivation ritual, in order to help her patient. Strict and professional, Nema did not want to interrupt the procedure before it had been completed, even when the situation became critical for Yoda's life.[1]

Powers and abilities[]

As a Jedi, Nema was sensitive to the Force and carried a green-bladed lightsaber.[3] She also was skilled in medicine, serving the Order as a doctor.[1]

Rig Nema first appeared in "Voices," the eleventh episode of the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. She was voiced by Catherine Taber, who also portrayed Senator Padmé Amidala in the series.[1]

Nema's appearance is based on an early concept design of Mace Windu from the pre-production of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace.[4] It was drawn by Iain McCaig.[5]
