If you have ZonedDateTime and Instant at your disposal there is no need to ever use java.sql.Timestamp . That class is one of the terrible old legacy classes now supplanted by the java.time classes. As of JDBC 4.2, we can directly exchange java.time objects with the database. Your mixing of the legacy and modern classes makes no sense to me.
