however grep -nr yourString works too, as it looks for the bare yourString anywhere in the line (or at least it does on my system, OSX Lion)

create code fences with backticks ` or tildes ~

like so

add language identifier to highlight code

put returns between paragraphs
for linebreak add 2 spaces at end

quote by placing > at start of line
