Hurry! These Small Business Grants Expire in October


Whether your business is struggling to recover from the pandemic or trying to make the most of new opportunities, extra funding can be incredibly useful. Small business grants provide a quick influx of cash that can be used for a variety of functions. Sometimes these grants come from state or federal governments. In other cases, local groups or non-profits offer them.

Small Business Grants with an October 2022 Deadline

If you’re looking for opportunities to fund your next project, check out these grant opportunities with deadlines in October.

Fulton Downtown Revitalization Initiative

The Fulton Community Development Agency in New York is accepting grant applications for the city’s Downtown Revitalization Initiative. The program aims to improve downtown area businesses through building renovations like adding signage or outdoor seating areas. Eligible businesses can apply for up to $100,000 per project until the deadline of October 3.

Sault Ste. Marie Downtown Revitalization Grants

Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan businesses can apply for downtown revitalization grants through the Michigan Economic Development Corporation. Eligible projects include interior renovation, technical assistance, or pandemic-related upgrades. Each grant may offer up to $25,000, and a 10 percent match is required. Eligible businesses have until October 6 to apply.

Kittias County CBDG-CV Small Business Grants

Washington’s Kittias County Chamber of Commerce recently launched a grant program to support small businesses struggling due to the pandemic.

The CBDG-CV Small Business Grant program is open businesses that have been open through the COVID-19 pandemic and have faced financial losses. October 7 is the deadline to apply.

ZenBusiness #MomsMeanBusiness Campaign

ZenBusiness recently unveiled its #MomsMeanBusiness campaign to support moms starting their own businesses. The program doesn’t include a cash grant. But ZenBusiness is offering to cover expenses related to business formation, like LLC applications and registering with your home state. Eligible businesses can apply for the program through October 15.

Valdosta COVID-19 Small Business Grant Program

The Valdosta, Georgia COVID-19 Small Business Grant program supports local small businesses that suffered pandemic-related losses. Hosted in partnership with the Valdosta-Lowndes Chamber of Commerce and the Black Business Alliance, the program is funded through the American Rescue Plan Act. Applications are available now, and must be submitted by October 17.

Founders First Tadlock Grant

Founders First is offering small business grants specifically to veteran entrepreneurs. The Tadlock Grant provides $1,000 to 25 veteran small business owners. Qualifications include having a U.S. military veteran founder, and having between two and 50 employees. Applications will be accepted through October 18.

Only in Seattle Initiative Grants

The Seattle Office of Economic Development is accepting applications for the 2023 Only in Seattle Initiative grant program. The program includes $1.2 million in funding, which will support neighborhood business initiatives, especially those related to equity and social justice. Grants will be awarded to neighborhood-based nonprofits, business organizations, and community groups. Businesses may benefit from the projects started by these groups. Or you can work with a sponsor organization to apply for project funding. The deadline for current OIC partners is October 18. New applicants have until October 31 to apply.

Maine Forest Recovery Initiative

Maine is offering $14 million in grant funding specifically for forestry companies. The state’s Forest Recovery Initiative is part of the Maine Jobs & Recovery Plan. The state has already supported 219 forest businesses through the program. This latest funding round will provide grants ranging from $250,000 to $2,000,000 to support various projects. The deadline for this round is October 18.

Texas Woman’s University StartHER Grant Program

Women-owned businesses in Texas can apply for grants through the Texas Woman’s University. The StartHER grant program offers funding for both new and aspiring female entrepreneurs. During this round, 25 grants worth $5,000 are available. The application period closes October 22.

Chula Vista Small Business and Nonprofit Relief Fund

Chula Vista, California and the San Diego Foundation are offering COVID-19 recovery grants to local small businesses and nonprofits. The $3.6 million in funding comes from the federal American Rescue Plan Act and the San Diego Foundation. Local businesses with 100 or fewer employees that generate annual net profits under $150,000 can apply through October 27.

Adrian MEDC Match on Main Grant Application

Downtown Adrian Main Street/DDA is applying for Michigan’s Match on Main grant reimbursement program to support downtown businesses. The statewide grant program is offered through the Michigan Economic Development Corp. It provides up to $25,000 to local organizations that will use it to support small businesses. To apply, Adrian needs eligible local businesses to submit their own information. Interested businesses can apply with Adrian through October 21. A selection committee will pick two finalists and submit its own grant application to MEDC by the October 28 deadline.

Vermont Working Lands Enterprise Initiative

Vermont is offering grants to the state’s farming and forestry businesses. The Working Lands Enterprise Initiative offers funding of up to $35,000, supporting projects that focus on market development, research, infrastructure development, training, and energy. A one-to-one match is required, and projects must be completed within 12 months. October 28 is the deadline to apply.

Fort Collins Pandemic Recovery Grants

Fort Collins, Colorado is providing grants for small businesses still struggling from the pandemic. To qualify for grants of up to $10,000, local businesses must have less than 50 employees and generate less than $500,000 in annual revenue. Businesses must also demonstrate pandemic-related financial loss. The first round of funding has already closed. But the next application round runs from October 3 through 31.
