Are we about to see a further acceleration of Japanese acquisitions overseas? Changes likely to be proposed to the Japanese Companies Act in 2025 will include allowing companies to use their own stock, rather than just cash as part of the purchase offer. Despite the currently cheap yen there has already been a 6% increase year on year in the number of overseas acquisitions by Japanese companies and a doubling in value. Japanese companies are sitting on quite a lot of treasury stock because of recent pressures by activists and the Tokyo Stock Exchange. https://lnkd.in/ej5wMkPP

Singapore Green Plan 2030 publishes concrete targets to advance Singapore’s transition. The intermediary 2025-2026 targets provide a strong reference of how countries and corporates may build milestones, roadmaps and action plans for ‘responsible production and consumption’ change. ✨2025 targets: Energy Reset Green Energy: 1.5 gigawatt-peak (GWp) solar energy deployment to support annual electricity needs of 260,000 households. 200 megawatt-hour of Energy Storage Systems to enhance grid resilience and support clean energy transitions Greener Infrastructure and Buildings: Singapore’s first integrated waste and used water treatment facility to be 100% energy self-sufficient (Tuas Nexus). Reduce energy consumption of desalination process from 3.5kWh/m3 to 2kWh/m3. Cleaner-energy Vehicles: New registrations of diesel cars and taxis to cease and HDB towns to be Electric Vehicle (EV) ready with chargers at all HDB carparks. In recent years, we have witnessed jurisdictions such as Germany, United Kingdom, France, and Netherlands, enact new legislations which mandate key businesses to perform supply chain risk assessments and to meet the requirements of e.g., Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and, EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanisms (CBAM). Increasingly, importers across the world are demanding for raw materials with greater transparency and traceability along the supply chain, as well as compliance with Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) standards. With our Sustainable Trade Finance framework, we have developed a set of recognized green product certification, such as for palm, sugar, coffee, nuts, animal feeds, and building materials, to support companies with the ambition to green their supply chains and to meet the evolving regulatory standards across the world. Vietnam total exports has reached 31 USD bn in Apr 2024 (+11% YoY). On a positive note, this will be a motivation for exporters to review their manufacturing processes and supply chains to lower their carbon footprint. https://lnkd.in/g9TCikTq

Asset Withdrawals: Gate.HK will continue to allow withdrawals of assets until 28 August 2024. 5. Cessation of Marketing: Effective immediately, Gate.HK will stop marketing its services in Hong Kong. We strongly advise users to allow themselves sufficient time to wind down or otherwise manage their positions with Gate.HK before 4:00 PM (Hong Kong time) on 28 May 2024 and to withdraw their assets from the platform before 28 August 2024. Gate.HK is actively working on the aforementioned overhaul.
