ETH Zurich's Asia research hub in Singapore for a more sustainable, liveable and resilient future, as part of NRF CREATE
About us
The Singapore-ETH Centre is the only research centre established by ETH Zurich, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, outside of Switzerland. The centre was established in 2010 in partnership with Singapore's National Research Foundation as part of its Campus for Research Excellence and Technological Enterprise (CREATE). Since its founding, the Singapore-ETH Centre has become a vibrant hub for research with some 200 researchers from diverse disciplines under three programmes: Future Cities Laboratory (www.fcl.ethz.ch), Future Resilient Systems (www.frs.ethz.ch), Future Health Technologies (FHT). The SEC aims to tackle some of the most pressing challenges of urbanisation in partnership with universities, government agencies, industry, and the wider community.

How can households beat the heat without air-conditioning? Dr Natalia Borzino and her team share how. In this episode of CNA's Talking Point with Steven Chia, Dr Borzino and several members of her team from the Climate Resilient Citizenry project were featured as they tried to brainstorm ways to help lower-income households deal with #urbanheat. The team proposed practical solutions that do not involve air-conditioning, and were filmed testing them out in the episode. The multi-disciplinary project is led by the Lee Kuan Yew Centre for Innovative Cities at the Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), in partnership with the National University of Singapore, SEC and Singapore Management University. https://lnkd.in/gi_dVwkd

👀 Here’s a #flash🔙 Friday post on what went down at the recent 13th European Meeting of the Urban Economics Association held in Copenhagen on 8 June. Our postdoctoral researcher from the Future Cities Laboratory (#FCL) Global programme, Dr Einar C. Kjenstad presented his paper titled "Amenities, residential agglomeration externalities, and efficient city design - Evidence from Singapore" 🏙️ co-authored by Prof. Dr Peter Egger (https://lnkd.in/ge6K5mxX) and Assoc. Prof. Dr Siew Ann Cheong (https://lnkd.in/g9pHJEN4). This research study, part of the Resource-Efficient Urban Intensification module (FCLG, Integration and Strategies), delves into a general-equilibrium model to evaluate Singapore’s #urbaninfrastructure and #planning initiatives. 🏗️ Special thanks also go to discussant Katja Gehr at the University of Würzburg for her insights.
