Pleased to announce the publication of our latest paper: "Understanding Microwave Interactions with Polymers to Enable Advanced Plastic Chemical Recycling." In this paper, we demonstrated that polymers with polar segments are more susceptible to microwave heating, indicating that additional microwave absorbers may not always be necessary. We highlighted the significant impact of temperature on enhancing microwave susceptibility and identified three key transitions that define microwave interactions with polymers at high temperatures. Based on these findings, we introduced a concept for the selective, multistage recycling of mixed plastics. A huge thanks to my co-authors Nicklas Hjalmarsson, Chai Siah Lee, Derek Irvine, John Robinson, and Eleanor Binner for their invaluable contributions. Special thanks to John Runnacles, Adam Clarke, and all the WP4 team at the Net Zero Acrylics for their insights and stimulating discussions. This research was made possible by the generous support from EPSRC and Mitsubishi Chemical UK Ltd. Here is the link to the full paper which is open access: https://lnkd.in/eQXsDVND
