Welcoming Muhammad Jibril Saifullah to the Net Zero Acrylics team! Jibril is currently part of the UCL engineering team responsible for tech-transfer. ➡ What did you do before Net Zero Acrylics? I have worked in both continuous fermentation and continuous ion-exchange chromatography in the bio-plastics industry ➡ Why do you think the work from Net Zero Acrylics is important?  The project allows novel research into #defossilising industry not just in acrylics but also as a stepping stone for other industries. ➡ Do you have an interesting fact about yourself? I got top in the world for both my AS and A2 level CIE Marine Science course at A-level ➡ What do you do outside of work? I am part of an 8-aside football Team which competes in a weekly league in Stratford. ➡ One piece of advice you would give a young student interested in #STEM? Be open to opportunities as they come. Even if it seems difficult at first it might end up being extremely valuable as time passes

Malcolm Kidd is currently the regional head for Mitsubishi Chemical Group in EMEA and has worked all over the globe throughout his 35 years in industry, travelling to countries including Japan, Singapore, South Africa, China and USA, but he also has another very important role here on Teesside. Malcolm has been a board director of NEPIC since 2020, aiding in steering the direction of NEPIC for the last four years. Did you catch our very own Mark Reynolds presenting at the Pioneer Group Green Carbon seminar? On Tuesday 30 April Mark was able to share experiences in developing Mitsubishi Chemical UK sustainable #acrylics production routes and the #netzeroacrylics project at the Pioneer Group presents "PLANETARY HEALTH" Seminar Green Carbon for the UK #Chemicals Sector. The event was held at the Wilton Centre, Teesside, a literal stone’s throw from the Mitsubishi Chemical offices. Although it was late in the day, participants were encouraged to take out their smart phones and learn more about our project. Have you followed Net Zero Acrylics yet? Participant presentations were filled with a broad spectrum of #sustainability interests and clearly indicated many common messages and some shared frustrations. The Net Zero Acrylics Strategic Advisory Board meeting was on full force the last 2 days. Our researchers have come from all around the UK and gathered at the Albert Hall, Nottingham to share and discuss their recent progress to all the other work packages. A special mention to the researchers who presented to the entire team, including the SAB members, in our plenary session on their research. It's tough to condense 6 months work into 20 minutes and deliver the science in a manner that allows everyone to understand. Truly an invaluable session! Taking #netzeroacrylics to Japan 🌏 Members of the Mitsubishi Chemical Bio-process development team recently visited our Japanese colleagues at the Hiroshima MMA production site and at the Science Innovation Centre in Yokohama. This was a great opportunity to share news internally on #lifecycleassessment and #bioprocess development; key elements of #netzeroacrylics Prosperity Partnership. It proved invaluable to meet face to face and discuss these subjects in a lot of detail, despite the jetlag! After a day of intense scientific conversation, there is usually an opportunity to deepen our understand of respective cultures in a more relaxed setting 🍻. A very enjoyable and productive trip!

Meet Professor Eleanor Binner who leads the microwave recycling work package and the Nottingham team. 1️⃣ Before Net Zero Acrylics… ... I've spent most of my career as a researcher and an academic working on projects from zapping food waste with #microwaves to zapping #pollution with #plasmas. Before that I drove around Australia in a Ute cleaning up contaminated land.   2️⃣ Why do I think the work from Net Zero Acrylics is important?   Acrylic plastics have the best potential to be 100% #recycled of all of the plastics. If we crack this, we can continue to use these amazing materials in our daily lives but in a safe and #sustainable way. 3️⃣ What do you like the most about working on Net Zero Acrylics? The team! Mitsubishi Chemical UK are an absolutely fantastic company to #collaborate with, and our team at University of Nottingham and the other partner universities are just the best. 4️⃣ What did you want to be when you grew up? If this changed, what made you change decisions? I stood on top of an oil refinery as the lights went on and I thought... I want to build one of these! I may not have done exactly that, but the idea was that I wanted be part of the problem so I could be part of the solution, not complaining from the side-lines. So no, nothing's changed.
