- About SolarCamp ApS - SolarCamp ApS is a retail company that developes high quality solar powered household electronics in collaboration with partners in China - Products which are specifically designed for the northern european weather and seasons. We currently sell to Sweden, Denmark and Germany(most recent). More countries opening in 2024 and 2025. Our products are pretty niche, and the company is still relatively small - around 2mio USD turnaround in 2023. But it is already profitable and has great growth potential. We sell mainly to private customers from our webshops, but are also starting to gain interest in our solutions from companies and communes aswell as collaborations with resellers of our brands. I get a lot of messages here on Linked-In, so I thought I would clarify, what is currently interesting for us and what is not. 🙂 Interesting 🙂 Any type of collaboration and networking which helps us to develop the company as a whole, especially looking outwards to the rest of Europe. "Is this a good time to fundraise?", is a question we get from time to time. This is our thoughts the state of the Nordic seed investing market in Q2 2024. In Q1 and early Q2, we have started to see our expectation for 2024 being a strong year for seed investing becoming reality. However, it is still very much a market of haves and have nots. For the haves (generally a very strong team using AI to build a new generation product for a large market and having initial traction) it is a very good a time to raise seed capital as valuations are strong. Even with the tough market for the have nots, this makes us assess that Nordic seed valuations have increased somewhat in 2024 compared to H2’2023. When we zoom out, the view of the general market becomes a bit murky. As an example, while seed valuations are up, valuations at Series A are generally flat. This indicate that companies raising large seed rounds today, will have to execute very well to raise strong Series A rounds. Data from Carta’s State of Private Markets Q1 2024 report supports this view. It highlights that the time between funding rounds (from seed to Series A, and from Series A to Series B) is getting longer than the typical 18-24 months, that ca 40 % of all financings in Q1’24 were bridge rounds and that shutdowns were up +86 % from Q1’23 to Q1’24 for startups that had raised venture capital. Those are signs of a tough fundraising environment. So, we need to keep two seemingly contradictory ideas about H1’2024 in our minds at the same time. The next big thing can attract funding at good terms and a high number of startups founded in the last few years have a tough time raising capital at all.

Stockholm-based Norrsken VC has announced the closing of its second fund, Norrsken VC Fund II, at €320 million, surpassing its initial target of €250 million. This makes it the largest early-stage generalist impact fund in Europe. The fund is backed by almost 50 limited partners (LPs) that seek both impact and financial returns. These investors include institutional backers like Första AP-fonden (AP1), Folksam, Saminvest AB, KfW Capital , and the Ireland Strategic Investment Fund (ISIF), as well as major firms like Credit Suisse, Investcorp-Tages, BMW Group, and SEB-Stiftelsen. Let me assure you, as someone who has a behind the curtain view on a ton of the top Swedish and European consumer startups: these are very tough journeys. Over the last five years, I have seen zero exceptions to this. There is so much going on behind the scenes that spectators will never see. There is so much scrappiness, so much sweat, so much fire fighting, so much hustle and creativity. Your yearning for learning, building and impact needs to greatly outweigh your fear of uncertainty, friction and change. Above all, you need to be extremely comfortable with consistent failure. You will fail, over and over and over again, on an individual, team and company level. Hopefully the environment you are in supports or maybe even celebrates this, but still the absolute majority of people won't be comfortable with it. Some of the reward mechanisms in larger corporations will not be present either. If you are a master at stakeholder management or carry great executive presence, chances are these traits will still be valuable (especially at around 50-100 people), but they will carry lower value. There will be a lot more focus on what you can contribute that will excite the customer, and how quickly and efficiently you can get from point A to B. Accountability will be through the roof. So what is your main responsibility within management? To make sure everyone coming in through those doors understands this. Be super transparent with the culture you have, especially if they are coming from a large corporation. Every candidate that joins Estrid has a final interview where I lay out my thinking around our culture, transparently. I will continue to do so until we’re around 200 people. Still, it's not easy and requires a lot more work and repetition. For a select group of people that have a passion for building and a desire to disrupt, a journey like this will accelerate learnings beyond belief. It will be incredibly rewarding, personally and professionally. Anything else will feel slow and bureaucratic. But everyone needs to do their homework before deciding to join or let in.

A year ago, Mercurius Credit Fund was launched, and what a fantastic first year it has been! The fund is up 10.73% since inception. The level of return has thus exceeded our goal both in absolute and risk-adjusted terms. Additionally, the return has been positive every month. As the fund has now been active for a year, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you whose capital we have been entrusted to manage and for all the rewarding meetings we have had with both current and (what we hope will become) future investors. You are a big part of why this has gone well and why we see such strong interest in the fund from family offices, investment companies, foundations, companies with surplus liquidity, and similar investors. We also want to thank Martin Gren and Emil Hjalmarsson for a very appreciated collaboration. The investment strategy used in the fund was initially developed by Emil and used successfully for many years within Aktiebolag Grenspecialisten . Emil is an advisor to Mercurius Credit Fund, and his experience with this type of investment management was crucial in being able to launch something that both we and they felt was missing in the market. Emil was of course also a key part in OQAM being able to recruit Christian Hjalmarsson as the responsible manager for the fund. Christian is not only an extremely skilled manager and the one who deserves the most credit 😉 for the fine returns, but also an incredibly appreciated colleague in our team. In Mercurius Credit Fund, we try to solve a number of problems that we believe have existed in the range of funds and mandates with similar risk levels that focus on Nordic corporate bonds. For example, the fund has a notice period of 90 days for redemptions and will be closed for subscriptions when we reach SEK 3-4 billion in AuM. We are aware that by doing this we have chosen a somewhat different path and that it certainly is not the easiest one when launching something new and trying to build AuM. The purpose, however, is to be able to fully focus on delivering our target return with as low risk as possible through genuinely active management that takes advantage of the market structure. It’s official. I’ll return to media! And not just to any media company. I’m coming home to Schibsted Media ✨ As a newly formed independent company, fully owned by Tinius Trust, Schibsted Media has a unique opportunity to shape its own long-term ambition & strategy and to tune its operating model to be an even stronger pure media player. And I get to support exactly that! 🚀 After a long summer break I will start as Senior Advisor to Siv, Schibsted Media’s CEO, and her management team. I was very determined to take a more strategic role after leaving Oda to support while I learn instead of diving straight into another operational leader role, and I was thrilled about getting this opportunity. There are several reasons for why this excites me so much. First of all, I love being in front of major formative shifts where I get to help outline long-term ambitions holistically while securing a fast and effective start towards it. Secondly, getting to work a mission that matters daily for people and colleagues who passionately care is really motivating. Q1 2024 was yet another quarter of strong results, as net sales grew by 33.3% to SEK 253.4m and EBITDA by 37.3% to SEK 119.7m compared to last year. The growth is driven by more property sellers choosing to maximise their marketing on Hemnet through investing in Hemnet Premium, as well as 11 % more property listings compared to last year. 2024 has started with a number of welcomed positive signals on the property market with not only more listings on Hemnet, but also more transactions, higher prices as well as increasing price expectations from consumers. Maria Khorsand turned Careium’s numbers around in just six months   When Maria Khorsand joined Careium as Executive Interim CEO in 2022, her assignment was to lead a turnaround. In just six months, Maria, together with her team, managed to drastically turn the company’s numbers around. Q4 2022 exceeded expectations and the stock raised over 50%.   Turning around a company’s sensitive financial numbers usually involves introducing an rational cost-saving package while simultaneously growing the business in a distressed situation, which requires strong leadership and a solid team.   “It’s important that everyone is on board and understands that together we create change and stability and that all individuals are important. The management team worked out a cost-saving package that we implemented immediately while we grew our business significantly. I had many one-to-one conversations to drive us forward with collective power, where we are headed. It’s impossible to succeed with a major change if you don’t communicate transparently, clearly, and regularly. Since Careium is listed on the stock exchange, I couldn’t tell everything, but it was important that everyone felt safe and proud”, says Maria.   Trivia: At Ericsson, Maria was CEO of their Bluetooth company (Ericsson Technology Licensing), which was the first in the world to develop Bluetooth technology for wirelessly connecting different digital devices. Together with one of their customers, a computer manufacturer, the new technology was to be marketed. Maria had previously given a book to the customer, namely “Röde Orm” by Frans G Bengtsson.
