Bathed in sunlight, this historic gem now beckons visitors to indulge in the sights, sounds, and tantalising tastes of West Swedish seafood. 🙏 Enjoy a Moment of Tranquillity at Brunnsparken The redesigned Brunnsparken captures Gothenburg’s essence with community-shaped authenticity. Historic footpaths and new lighting create a safe, welcoming space, while lush greenery invites tranquility amidst the bustling city. 👑 Vänerskärgården Visitor Centre – Victoriahuset Naturum Vänerskärgården – Victoriahuset is a visitor centre that was built to remind people of the riches of Europe’s largest freshwater archipelago. Across the bay shines the baroque grandeur of Läckö Castle, attracting a large number of visitors every year. 🦐 Naturum Kosterhavet – Sweden’s first marine reserve Naturum Kosterhavet is a contemporary reinvention of the marine vernacular; a visitor centre where guests can study sealife up-close in the aquarium, or use as a base to explore the beaches and snorkel amidst Sweden’s only coral reef. 🩱 Bølgen Bath & Leisure Centre Bølgen Bath & Leisure centre is an investment in the health and well-being of the residents of Frogn municipality in Norway. The sports and aquatic centre is open to all residents and creates an important hub linking professional, amateur and recreational sporting activities in the district. 👙 Bergen Bystrand and a New Lungegårdsparken Bergen’s future city beach and park at Store Lungegårdsvann will soon be a premier landmark, spanning nearly one kilometer. Today we’re exploring Halland and Småland, and since we have a few more days, we're setting sail for London! 🛟 Tylösand Life Guard Tower Hopefully you don't need them this summer. But if you do, they will be there for you! The lifeguard tower at Tylösand is an aesthetic landmark project focused on something as crucial as public safety. Situated at an impressive angle of 67 degrees and standing eleven metres tall, the lifeguard tower at Tylösand beach is the embodiment of vigilance, ever alert, ready to leap into action. 🎨 Halland Art Museum Halland Art Museum – Halmstad’s regional centre for visual culture – is located on the banks of the Nissan River. In its new form, the museum and the surrounding outdoor environment will be an obvious and accessible visitor and meeting place with a focus on art and culture for all ages. A place where creativity and nature become a given element of everyday life. 🐦 Spin around the Kärven Bird Observation Tower In the Getterön nature reserve north of Varberg, sea and land meet in a teeming wetland with a rich bird life. The Kärven bird observation tower is a three-dimensional puzzle that enhances the value of the site and creates a stimulating environment for curious visitors. The tower opens to the public in July and is inaugurated in August. 🏋️ Summer Strength wite Eleiko For more than 50 years, Eleiko in Halmstad has been manufacturing equipment for professional weightlifting. As a result, over 1000 world records have been set using Eleiko barbells. 🏞️ Discover the secrets of the wet marshlands at Store Mosse Naturum Store Mosse is a visitor centre that transports guests into the heart of folklore, while recanting the tale of the region’s 14,000 year history; from Ice Age to present day. 👩💻 Our London office Even though Sweden practically shuts down during summer, our friends in London don't. Three beautiful projects inspired by nature: 🧗♀️ The High Coast – Established 10,000 Years Ago In the shadow of the mighty Skuleberget lies a remarkable building inspired by the surrounding nature. Höga Kusten Visitor Centre is the result of ‘geological surgery’ – a precise cut straight into the ancient mountain. ⛰️ Scenic Mountains and Waterfalls at Fulufjället Fulufjället Visitor Centre in western Dalarna serves as an inspiring gateway and educational guide to majestic landscapes and wilderness. The building is subtly nestled in the Fulufjället National Park, famous for Sweden’s highest waterfall, ancient forests and ravines. A humble building in a dramatic setting. 🏞️ Hamra National Park and the Crown Jewels Hamra National Park was the site of a special pilot to test an award-winning visual identity concept, intended for implementation across all Swedish National Parks. The goal was to encourage more people to experience the beauty of national parkland, while taking ownership of these national treasures. Three amazing projects in cities we love. 🍻 Enjoy Cool Interior and Drinks at Krøl When in Malmö, visit the newly opened bar at Möllan, KRØL. Named after musician and graphic designer Mike Krol, its interior and lush outdoor area are inspired by his album covers. The design blends Scandinavian diner vibes with 60s fashion, mod culture, and playful, timeless Scandinavian design. 🎭 Malmö City Theater – Hippodrome The Hippodrome, once a 19th-century circus building, has been extensively renovated. Now Malmö City Theatre’s main stage, it blends new architecture with historic charm, welcoming a wider audience. 🌊 Kastrup Sea Bath: Embracing the Salty Magic Kastrup Sea Bath is a standout gem in København’s Ørestad region. Nestled in a renovated turbine hall, UNITY Hammarby Sjöstad offers a seamless blend of living and working space, perfect for professionals and business travellers alike. Originally used as a welding shop and school by Asea in the 1940s, the building is one of the few surviving structures in Hammarby Sjöstad, an area bustling with new development. Unity's project includes a mix of short and long-term apartments and co-working spaces. Common areas include a stylish lobby, a well-equipped gym and the stunning old transformer hall, which retains its industrial charm. The project encompasses approximately 160 rooms across 7,000 square metres. Accommodation options range from compact studios of around 18 square metres for one or two people to larger apartments of up to 40 square metres for four people. The high-ceilinged ground and first floors feature chic loft apartments for two to four people, with elegant steel and wood lofts. The co-working space, located in the grand turbine hall with its 10-metre high ceiling, offers workstations and meeting rooms, complemented by a lobby bar and a spacious rooftop terrace. The new micro-housing concepts for hybrid living were developed through a collaboration between Design Research Studio, the design and innovations agency at the heart of Tom Dixon Studio, and UNITY. Experience the unique blend of history and modernity at Unity Hammarby Sjöstad, where life and work harmoniously intertwine. Today, we’re taking a trip to Uppsala and Sigtuna to visit three fantastic projects: 🛹 Kickflip on Uppsala’s 65 meter Long Sofa Forumtorget, a vital central square in Uppsala's bustling business district, offers a spacious public plaza anchored by a dramatic 65-meter-long seating installation. This impressive feature not only captivates and entertains but also invites visitors to pause and relax. 🌊 Stillness by the Stormwater Pond As cities grow, the demand to purify water and prevent flooding increases. The new stormwater pond at Exercisfältet in Uppsala addresses these challenges, enhances biodiversity, and provides a space for socializing and strolling. 💚 The Greenery of Sweden's First City, Sigtuna Hamnplan, located beautifully on Lake Mälaren's shore in Sigtuna, has been renovated from a gravel car park into a welcoming gathering spot. It features new social furniture, lush greenery, and carefully integrated natural stone and concrete paving. The project is nominated for the Swedish Stenpriset 2024! First up is a trip to beautiful Lapland and Västerbotten: ☀ Kiruna and the Midnight Sun Kiruna’s Midnight Sun offers a breathtaking 47 days of sunlight! This Arctic city, facing one of the largest urban transformations due to iron ore extraction, is moving while preserving its essence and collective memory. How do you relocate a city and keep its heart intact? 🎭 Culture and Creativity at Sara Cultural Centre Sara Cultural Centre in Skellefteå stands tall among the world’s timber structures. This Arctic Circle gem houses arts, performance, literature, and a hotel, all crafted from locally sourced timber. A testament to the region's rich tradition in timber construction! 🎭 Väven – A Cultural Arena in Umeå, by Umeå With its prime location on the banks of the River Ume, Väven embodies a cross-boundary cultural arena that brings together a range of disciplines in a cluster of flexible spaces. Boende för alla | Whites allra första projekt! Baronbackarna i Örebro är resultatet av en tävlingsvinst år 1950. De unga arkitekterna Sidney White och Per-Axel Ekholm vann med ett förslag med mottot "Du får leka på våran gård". Fokuset låg på ett socialt engagemang i människors vardag och tron på att världen går att förändra! Bostäderna stod klara 1957 och har en given plats i svensk arkitekturhistoria. Här stod barnfamiljernas behov i centrum! Bostadsområdet uppmärksammades stort för sina experimentlägenheter med ett allrum, där man genom att avskaffa finrummet och flytta ut matplatsen från köket kunde skapa ett tredje rum på en liten yta. Bostäderna uppmärksammades även som ett originellt exempel på den nya tidens arkitektur där man inte längre ritade ett hus i taget. Nu handlade det om att planera hela stadsdelar samt rita och bygga utifrån hur människor lever och vill ha sitt boende. Balkongen och köket fick utsikt över lekplatserna, som var en del av ett stort bilfritt gårdsrum. Köket fick även fönster in till badrummet så att barnen kunde bada under uppsikt. Baronbackarna var ett viktigt steg i det svenska sociala bostadsbyggandets ambition att avskaffa trångboddheten. En tid när Sverige gick från en av Europas lägsta bostadsstandarder till ett välfärdssamhälle på bara lite mer än ett decennium. Det var också ett innovativt exempel på god arkitektur som bär med sig beprövad kunskap, samtidigt som den söker nya lösningar på nya problem.
