Street, skate and contemporary culture meet! A few weeks ago we opened Shepard Fairey’s new exhibition “Photo Synthesis" at Fotografiska Stockholm. From grassroots to galleries, Fairey is one of the best-known street artists worldwide, with 200 of his new and iconic works now on view for the first time in Sweden. To celebrate the opening, we invited guests to hear from the artist himself, screen-print their own t-shirt with Wawa Print Shop, drink and dine at the Fotgrafiska Veranda, and dance in collaboration with STUDIO94 and Djungel & Jazz. See more from opening night below!

Embracing the rough and the real, Bruce Gilden’s photography reveals all! Last week, Fotografiska New York opened its doors to “Bruce Gilden: Why These?,” a showcase of Gilden’s favorite works from across the globe, including some never-before-seen images captured over the last few years. To kick off the evening, Gilden took the stage with friend and poet Max Blagg to delve deeper into the psyche and stories behind his iconic imagery, from street-wise tales of dangerous close encounters to the evolution of his use of flash in photography. Now on view at Fotografiska New York, “Why These?” combines Gilden’s renowned black-and-white street photography with large-scale color portraits, illustrating the deep emotions of the hardened characters he’s drawn to. Who are you once the party is over?   For our Fotografiska Berlin opening of Andy Warhol and Joanna Dudley’s exhibition, we transformed our museum into a tribute to the artists. The night started with welcoming speeches from the exhibition curators and an exploration of Warhol‘s rarely-seen photographs. The DJ sets, vogueing and dance performances filled the Ballroom until the early hours of the morning. It was wonderful to see our community come together and connect with the art, music and on the dance floor. Visit ‘After the Party’ at Fotografiska Berlin until September 15, 2024.

What is a machine without an idea?   Camera, film camera, digital camera, Photoshop or AI - in the ever-evolving landscape of visual arts, technology continues to reshape our understanding of creativity and authenticity. A world-leading pioneer in this field is Marco Brambilla, a video artist who has been harnessing machine learning long before it became more widely known as AI.   Brambilla's work is a fascinating exploration of our hyper-visual reality. He creates monumental digital collages by recontextualizing images and sequences from popular culture and media. The result? Abstract yet strangely familiar compositions that challenge our perceptions.   His collages of representations seem endless; there is no real beginning and no real end, everything is part of an infinite loop created by images representing reality brought together by the new technology's ability to master chance.   These digital tapestries are more than just visually striking - they prompt us to question the very nature of art creation. Where does art truly originate? Is it in the technology, the artist's vision, or perhaps in the intersection of both?   We’re proud to be currently showcasing two works from Brambilla’s Megaplex series - "King Size" and "Heaven's Gate" - at Fotografiska Shanghai. This exhibition marks the beginning of a collaboration that will span three Fotografiska museums in 2024-25, showcasing the global appeal of Brambilla's innovative approach.   For those in New York, Brambilla's work is also on display until June 30th, as part of the Times Square Arts Midnight Moment program. In testament to his widespread recognition, Brambilla was also invited to create a 360-degree installation at The Sphere in Las Vegas in 2023.   As we continue to navigate the intersection of technology and art, artists like Brambilla remind us of the endless possibilities that emerge when creativity meets innovation and we’re super proud to be partnering with him as a leader in digital art.   What are your thoughts on how AI and other technologies are influencing the art world? #Fotografiska #MarcoBrambilla #Art #Multimedia #Digital

Sharing insights on visibility, creativity, and equality, Fotografiska New York in collaboration with Kering’s Women In Motion initiative, hosted a vibrant panel discussion earlier this month, “Vivian Maier: Influence and Inspiration.” The event, skillfully moderated by Elisabeth Sherman, Senior Curator and Director of Exhibitions and Collections at The International Center of Photography, featured an inspiring conversation with Anne Morin, Director of diChroma Photography and curator of Vivian Maier: Unseen Work; photographer Lynn Saville; Anya Komar, co-founder of NYC gallery Ulrik.   The evening evolved into an exclusive celebration with Kering's esteemed guests from the worlds of art, photography, culture, and fashion, complete with a private viewing of the exhibition, a delightful cocktail reception and an elegant dinner at Veronika. Thank you for sharing an unforgettable evening with us, Kering.    #FotografiskaNewYork #Fotografiska #WomenInMotion #KeringForWomen #UnseenWorkatFotografiska #VivianMaier
