First EndoDrill cases in Norway!
Endodrill GI from BiBBInstruments AB Instrument represents a novel concept in EUS-guided core biopsy acquisition. The Endodrill was CE-marked in February 2024, and we at Haukeland University Hospital were excited to be one of the first centers to test it clinically last week. In the first case, we performed an almost full-thickness biopsy of a recurrent gastric cancer to prove deeper infiltration. The video shows the tumor and the Endodrill procedure in real time. After a better understanding how the Endodrill works, we also used it to access a perigastric abscess with a 15mm thick capsule. We advanced a 0.025 guide wire through the Endodrill, dilated with a 4mm Hurricane balloon from Boston Scientific, and placed an 8.5 Fr double pigtail stent. We could avoid dilatation with diathermy/cystogastrotome and reduce the number of instrumental exchanges. With the SMI function of the Olympus-Canon Apolio i850, we recognize that the Endodrill causes no bleeding or collateral tissue effect. The last case reveals that Endodrill may also be used in interventional EUS as a unique "atraumatic" mechanical access device in the future.
