Jul 11, 2022 at 19:27 comment added Martin Bonner supports Monica Ah. Yellow star is pretty definitive.
Jul 11, 2022 at 18:03 comment added Darrel Hoffman @MartinBonnersupportsMonica Maybe, but they did put those yellow stars on their coats, so it's at least implied that's why they're in the camp. Roma, Catholics, gay people, etc. all had different symbols stitched onto their clothing. Whether they were actually Jewish or the Nazis just thought they were is probably not answerable. (A quick search on "Lensherr" brings up only X-Men references, so can't really say if that's a Jewish name or not...)
Jul 11, 2022 at 16:52 comment added Martin Bonner supports Monica Being a Holocaust survivor doesn't necessarily mean Magneto was Jewish (depending on your terminology). There were probably more Soviet citizens (both civilians and POWs) died in the death camps than Jews - not to mention 1/2 million Roma and Sinti. See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Holocaust_victims

+Hawaiians in Inhumans
Jul 8, 2022 at 15:45 comment added ThePopMachine I would add that they directly depict sitting shiva in Marc Spectors family. It doesn't really speak to how religious he necessarily still is, but I guess that the family is at least somewhat practising since we can assume that almost everyone has a funeral, but not everyone has a shiva.

Add Ms. Marvel and Ben Grimm for completeness

Split by decreasing canonicity, add a few *Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.* characters
Jul 7, 2022 at 12:53 comment added Darrel Hoffman @galacticninja Right, that's why I listed them as "borderline" cases. Professor Xavier as played by Patrick Stewart did appear in the latest Dr. Strange movie though, so it's possible they're connected now?
Jul 7, 2022 at 5:23 comment added galacticninja The question says "in the MCU", but there are non-MCU descriptions in this answer, e.g., Nightcrawler, Magneto, and the kids in Logan. Those characters haven't been shown to be religious in the MCU.
Jul 6, 2022 at 19:11 comment added FuzzyBoots @Deepak: Also, his losing faith in God is a big thing in the third season.

+Marc Spector
Jul 6, 2022 at 13:42 comment added aynber As TheLethalCarrot mentioned in the comments above, Marc Spector was raised Jewish. You can see it in a few of the flashbacks. I don't know that they show that he's still practicing, though, as either Marc or Steven.
Jul 6, 2022 at 13:18 comment added Darrel Hoffman @justanotherguy I think this trend of mostly avoiding religion is mostly seen in the MCU, not Marvel in general, that is to say, the movies and TV shows. Some of the comics have touched on the characters' religions in greater depth. For one thing, there's a LOT more comics, produced by many different writers in some cases, with far less studio interference, and a much looser canon, allowing different versions of the characters to exist in parallel, so comic writers are more willing to take risks on things like that. (Though with the multiverse, that's starting to creep into the MCU proper)
Jul 6, 2022 at 13:10 comment added Darrel Hoffman @Jeffiekins FWIW, I'd put myself in that category as well. You'd have to go back 3 generations in my family to find any practicing Jews (basically all my great-grandparents were, but they all died before I was born). That said, I'm not meaning to say anything positive or negative about any religion or lack thereof, it was just a response to all of the hype about Ms. Marvel (which is a fine show, no knocks there, just maybe over-hyped in that aspect.)
Jul 6, 2022 at 10:30 comment added Deepak I don't know that I'd agree that the Catholic angle is downplayed in the Netflix version of Daredevil - Murdock frequently seeks Father Paul Lantom's counsel, and (spoilers)....................................................at the start of season 3, he's pretty much residing in a hostel or something run by nuns out of a church while recovering from an injury that affected his hearing. And then of course (more spoilers)..........................................................he finally finds out he's actually the son of the nun who's caring for him (she conceived him in a moment of weakness).
Jul 6, 2022 at 8:48 comment added justanotherguy Not to mention that MCU has fictionalized every religion out there. I remember in one of the iron fist comics (15, was it?) that we meet a Hindu, Vivatma Visvajit whose powers have been gifted to him by Shiva and he becomes one with the Bramhan when he uses those.
Jul 6, 2022 at 6:41 comment added Yann Maybe I'm misremembering, but doesn't quite a lot of the Daredevil Netflix show revolve around Matt trying to reconcile his superhero responsibilities with his Catholic belief & upbringing?
Jul 6, 2022 at 6:08 comment added mckenzm Remember that battle for Norsepersons is a religious experience in itself.
Jul 6, 2022 at 4:34 comment added Jeffiekins It doesn't appear that any of the Marvel characters besides Nightcrawler are really practicing their religion. I admit I'm not 100% familiar with every Marvel comic, but have seen most, and no real evidence of religious practice. P.S. FYI: Jewish converts often find the phrase "ethnically Jewish" offensive. "Jew by birth" would be more accurate and inoffensive. Not bashing, just informing.
Jul 5, 2022 at 21:16 comment added NomadMaker Sorry I didn't look it up; I was just reacting to the possibility. I know the MCU explanation that they are space aliens, but think is is pure bunk.
Jul 5, 2022 at 21:12 comment added Darrel Hoffman @NomadMaker Someone's already asked that question, though it wouldn't apply to this question, as in the MCU, Asgardians are aliens from another planet, thus any religion they practice (if they have one at all) would be a fictional one.
Jul 5, 2022 at 21:07 comment added NomadMaker What religion is Thor (and the rest of the Norse gods? I doubt that they would worship themselves. Maybe they worship Odin, but the dynamic between Thor and Odin is wrong for that.
