10As I see it, Muppet's Treasure Island, Christmas Carol, etc, are movies in which the muppets play various fictional characters, while The Muppet Movie (1979) and The Muppets (2011) are based on real events in the muppets' lives.– user3153372Commented Mar 21, 2021 at 8:56

28@user3153372 - They're not internally consistent though. There are multiple contradictory origin stories in the films, for example.– ValorumCommented Mar 21, 2021 at 9:28

20Given that Luke Skywalker was a guest on the muppet show (as opposed to Mark Hamill appearing as himself like most of the guests), if there was a canon it would have to include all of the Star Wars canon too.– Pete KirkhamCommented Mar 22, 2021 at 12:22

4@PeteKirkham: Can we use that to tie it to the broader St. Elsewhere multiverse?– KevinCommented Mar 22, 2021 at 17:14

7After reading Brian Jay Jones' biography of Henson, I would say the closest thing to a "canon" is that the Muppets are actors in our world. They play in a show, in movies, etc., but all of these things are just roles for them. They are part of the real world (but with plenty of poking fun at this concept, of course).– Luke SawczakCommented Mar 23, 2021 at 14:14

A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
Type the name of the science fictional or fantastical work your question is about (Example:
star-wars
).For questions not specific to any one work, use concept tags to describe your question (Example:
story-identification
).Tagging rules:
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. story-identification), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
