    Spock said it created a new chain of incidents, not that the old one was destroyed. And the word "alternate" could imply (though weakly) that the original timeline still "exists" in some sense. Commented Jul 16, 2012 at 22:51

  • I would say Spock's use of "altered the flow of history" implies that it is indeed the same timeline and not an alternate parallel timeline.
