3Nah, man, this won't work. We have to take screenshots of the shadows seen on-screen, then calculate the orbital position of the Earth in regards to the sun which would produce those exact shadows. From that we can extrapolate the exact position on the Earth in which those shadows would appear at those exact angles. Or something like that.– OmegacronCommented Oct 16, 2015 at 13:43

3@LindseyD: we’re awarding votes for not overthinking it now? If we stop overthinking things, this site is probably done for.– Paul D. WaiteCommented Oct 17, 2015 at 1:57

2@PaulD.Waite: As much as I appreciate the general research and (ahem) "thoroughness" that most answers on scifi.SE contain, it's a breath of fresh air to occasionally see an answer like this one.– Lindsey DCommented Oct 17, 2015 at 20:21

A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
Type the name of the science fictional or fantastical work your question is about (Example:
star-wars
).For questions not specific to any one work, use concept tags to describe your question (Example:
story-identification
).Tagging rules:
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. story-identification), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
