Apr 9, 2020 at 16:02 comment added Carcosa @Chris Not really an issue, was just a technical correction- unless I misinterpreted your original post (on negating natural 20s), in which case I'll delete my comment. Although your comment still leaves me a bit confused as to why someone would intentionally avoid getting a higher value on a check.

Apr 9, 2020 at 10:06 comment added Christopher @Carcosa Just to be sure: You issue is with the can rather then do? That some people might want to keep the maximum result on a check, despite spending a 8th Level spell (or equivalent) to get rid of them?
Apr 8, 2020 at 20:31 comment added Carcosa Minor correction- Glibness does not negate natural 20s, as the spell says "you can replace the number you roll with a 15". Also, and I infer from your wording that you recognize this already, but to be explicit: ability checks don't benefit from critical success anyway.

Apr 8, 2020 at 19:52 comment added Christopher @ThomasMarkov I realized that Charming Gesture is a short-duration Enhance Ability. As he can have the spell then, it does not seem unbalanced after all.

Apr 8, 2020 at 19:41 comment added Christopher @ThomasMarkov Oh, I overead that part. My bad. Then it is indeed weaker, asuming the Eloquence thing (a variant of the Tongues spell?) is balanced.
Apr 8, 2020 at 19:32 comment added Thomas Markov How are they so different? Both give advantage to charisma checks against the target(s) for 10 minutes.
Apr 8, 2020 at 19:30 comment added Christopher @ThomasMarkov The duration of Charming Gesture and Universal Speech is comparable. But I do not feel the effect really is.
Apr 8, 2020 at 19:29 comment added Thomas Markov And the Bard gets 8th level spells at level 15, so its only getting Glibness one level early.
Apr 8, 2020 at 19:29 comment added Thomas Markov I included mathematical comparison of Bleeding Strike to Whispers' Psychic Blades: it's comparable. I argue that Bleeding Strike and Charming Gesture balance each other because their uses are drawn from the same resource pool, Bardic Inspiration.
Apr 8, 2020 at 19:28 comment added Thomas Markov Charming Gesture is essentially a nerf to Universal Speech form the UA Eloquence Bard. The effect is the same, except for Charming Gesture you can only choose one creature that can see you (no stealth allowed), Universal Speech lets you choose a number of creatures within 60 feet.
