If it takes too long as they search each thing for traps or mimics, just tell them "look, there aren't any". If you don't want them to do that all the time, tell them "there won't be any in the future". This is fine. Being direct solves a lot of problems that a players/GMs for some reason try to do indirectly by hints and maybe story. Hints aren't a great way to put your point across - they can work but can also backfire or simply be missed. | |
