The Role of Transportation in Enjoying a Concert

Last month I attended two concerts with vastly different transportation options that impacted my enjoyment. What concert promoters need to understand is that fans want options other than driving and parking. And hopefully after reading my experiences below, promoters will understand why and will always consider transportation options that will be just as important as the actual artists.

The first concert was the NO VALUES punk rock festival in Pomona, California on Saturday June 8. And while the performances of legendary bands and artists like The Misfits, Iggy Pop, The Damned, Black Flag, L7, Suicidal Tendencies among others surpassed my high expectations, entering and exiting the Pomona Fairgrounds still leaves me angry.

The traffic catastrophe has been reported in many outlets, including the LA Times and Forbes, and threads on Reddit, and all of reports are accurate. I was there and can confirm that unless you got lucky with some random entrance or exit, you were sitting in your car for hours. I was stuck for almost five.

In fact, I left The Misfits 25 minutes early to avoid the traffic. Instead, once I got to my car, I didn’t move more than 20 feet in over two hours. I had to park my idling car and manipulate some temporary metal gates to move into the only moving lane to finally maneuver out of the…
