Mid-South Rumor Mill: Previewing upcoming commitments

Other than December, July has become the hottest month in the recruiting calendar for commitments to fly off the board. Prospects wrap up their official visits in late June and often have a fairly quick turnaround to making a decision.

Here are several prospects set to make commitment announcements in the next week or so and the buzz surrounding the decision.

Commitment Day: July 4

It is decision day for the top ranked wide receiver in the 2025 class. A one-time LSU commit, Moore is set to choose between LSU, Texas, Oregon, and Ohio State. For long, it has been Texas deemed as the favorite, but Oregon has people not so sure of the Longhorns at this point in this process.

There are family connections to Austin, so Texas has every reason to win this recruitment, but Oregon is swinging hard.

Commitment Day: July 5

The San Antonio-area wide receiver announced a top five just under two weeks ago of Kansas State, Kansas, Baylor, SMU, and Texas A&M. At one time, it seemed each of the Kansas schools had some buzz around Cooper, but as time as gone, it is SMU that seems to be in the best spot.

The Mustangs are hot on the recruiting trail right now and they may be able to close on yet another four-star wide receiver.

Commitment Day: July 6

Robinson has seen his ranking slightly drop in recent updates, but after a stellar performance at Rivals Five-Star, he will certainly see his stock rise again. That is good news for one program here in about two days. Robinson took official visits to Oklahoma, LSU, Arkansas, and Oregon.

LSU was once seen as a heavy favorite, and Oregon has had their fair share, but if I had to put a prediction on it, I would lean towards Oklahoma right now for the Little Rock (Ark.) stud defensive back.

Commitment Day: July 6

What has become one of the most intriguing recruitments in the 2025 cycle, there is some uncertainty which direction the No. 1 ranked inside linebacker will go on Saturday. Texas has long been the majority favorite and there has really been no question about that.

But as the weeks have drawn down, it is Ohio State and USC that seemed to have an edge with the Buckeyes being the leader. The relationships and coaching at Ohio State are said to be viewed an advantage over the others in Pettijohn's recruitment. Ohio State has also sold the idea of being a early contributor, not done very often in Ohio State's defense. There is still some optimism for Texas down the stretch as well as USC, who feels their new look defense and staff could lure him to Los Angeles.

Commitment Day: July 6

There were four official visits for Phillips: Texas, Texas A&M, LSU, and Baylor. Phillips confirmed to Rivals his upcoming decision will be made between Texas and LSU, which has been the feeling for at least a couple of months.

As it stands right now, I like where Texas stands here for the four-star cornerback over the Tigers with two days to go.

Commitment Day: July 7

The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder out of South Oak Cliff had four official visits on the schedule this summer getting to Arizona State, Baylor, Texas A&M, and SMU. With three days to go before a decision, there is optimism on Texas A&M sides as well as Baylor.

The Aggies have recruited Dallas-Fort Worth at a hot clip in the early months of the Mike Elko era but Baylor has also seen an uptick in recruiting presence this summer. What we do know is the four-star will be staying in Texas.

Commitment Day: July 8

This is a recruitment that has had Texas A&M deemed as the leader for quite some time. There were three official visits to Arkansas, Texas, and Texas A&M, and the Aggies are still the favorite. I have had a FutureCast in for a few weeks now and I still like that pick with four days before a decision.
