What is Brandwatch?

Brandwatch is one of the leading tools for social media monitoring in the world, allowing your business to analyze and utilize business conversations from across the social web. It offers a powerful and efficient social media monitoring and analytics platform that enables your business to collect, analyze and report relevant business insights on your social media data.

It is an ideal platform to make sense of the social media chatter about your brand. It crawls the Internet, archiving voluminous social media data gathered from at least 90 million sources and in 27 languages. You can search data in Brandwatch’s web-based interface, either proactively or retroactively for social media mentions of your brand or keyword, thanks to a sophisticated query creation process.

Overview of Brandwatch Benefits

Brandwatch’s social media monitoring tool can help your business look at social media data and conversations in order to provide you with information as well as the means to monitor specific segments to track their online presence.

The tool’s coverage includes news sites, forums, blogs, and social networks like Twitter and Facebook. You can then search social media data for terms they are researching, before using categorization, sentiment analysis, charting, and other analytic features that will give you further insight.

Brandwatch also has engagement, monitoring, as well as workflow features. The company behind the tool is one of the few that has full access to more than 90 million sources. Among these sources is Twitter’s “firehose”, which allows businesses complete coverage of tweets that were sent out using Twitter. The data generated allows you to track trends, look at campaigns, and assess competitors.

The app has an advanced suite of features allowing business data to be chopped and sliced in order to provide you with useful insights, through categorization, graphing, geolocation, metadata, as well as countless other components.

Understanding and monitoring your company brand is just the start: it also allow users to engage with target communities, responding to, assigning workflow, as well as handling social media mentions with ease.

Brandwatch differs from its competitors due to its flexibility and power in creating specific queries, using 22 Boolean Operators (the most operators of any platform on the market).

Whilst other companies buy some parts of their data from providers, rather than harvest it themselves, Brandwatch gathers information from over 70 million sources using proprietary technology.

Brandwatch clients are in control of their data rather than Brandwatch supplying them with what it believes they want to see, and with unlimited users customers can find out a vast amount of information by using the tool across multiple departments at no extra cost.

Another factor that sets Brandwatch apart is its ability to adapt to suit customer demands. As the company does not outsource its data or development, Brandwatch is being updated on a fortnightly basis with new features. If Brandwatch becomes aware of a new need or demand that may arise at little notice, it is better positioned to be agile enough to implement the necessary changes.

What Problems Will Brandwatch Solve?

Brandwatch can be used for countless purposes ranging from the generation of new business leads to tracking competitors and the creation of marketing material. The tool has started to become an integral feature of most medium to large companies across hundreds of different industries .

1st Challenge: Tracking campaigns

The social media monitoring platform is used for campaigns to help raise awareness of the Brandwatch brand and that of any clients it is working with. An example of a recent campaign which showcased how Brandwatch could be used is “The World Cup 2014 Visualisation”. This visualization provided Brandwatch with a unique opportunity to raise brand awareness in the USA, UK, and – for the first time – South America.

Using the power of Brandwatch, the company presented fans with a different view on the World Cup. Instead of providing common stats like shots on goal and possession, Brandwatch’s visualization looked at social data from off the pitch.

Taking a traditional game and adding a unorthodox twist gave fans the opportunity to see innovative and exciting data in thought-provoking ways, like which country has the largest fan base on social media.

Brandwatch took the obvious footballing metrics such as world ranking, games played and team value and compared them to country-based metrics – GDP, population, labor force and life expectancy.

Brandwatch gave users over 260 potential combinations of data, each with their own individual insights. The data was changed and updated daily, allowing fans to see how significant moments on the pitch affect people off the pitch. Arguably, no other World Cup stats provided this diversity of coverage and insights.

This was the only database of its kind created and generated a large increase of traffic to the Brandwatch site and to FGV DAPP web pages. This campaign demonstrated how SMM tools can be used to generate data for visual purposes and for interactive use by the public.

2nd Challenge: Finding leads

The Brandwatch app is also used for lead generation purposes. This is achieved through the creation of a web “query” which can highlight conversations around a specific industry and brand. Social media monitoring identifies where those discussing a specific product or industry are present, and can then alert staff to where they should be focusing their efforts. For example, Brandwatch allows you to create a query that looks for intent to purchase language. SDR teams can use those mentions in order to generate and capitalize on leads that would otherwise be missed.

3rd Challenge: Finding influencers and competitor benchmarking

Brandwatch also identifies key influencers who may be interested in purchasing your product. Brands can then offer them the opportunity to try a free demo of the product. By using Brandwatch, clients have been able to find leads, create advertising opportunities and understand where their target audience is present. Similarly, the app can be used for competitor benchmarking. This allows clients to analyze how their competition is faring in comparison to them as well as gauging any negativity that may be present within the industry.

Brandwatch Position In Our Categories

Keeping in mind businesses have unique business-related demands, it is only sensible they steer clear of deciding on a one-size-fits-all, ideal software system. Needless to say, it is almost impossible to discover such an app even among popular software systems. The practical thing to do would be to narrow down the several major functions which entail careful thought like essential features, price terms, technical skill levels of staff members, organizational size, etc. The second step is, you must conduct the research thoroughly. Have a look at these Brandwatch analyses and explore the other solutions in your list more closely. Such detailed product research guarantees you drop mismatched apps and choose the system that delivers all the benefits your company requires for optimal results.

Position of Brandwatch in our main categories:

TOP 500

Brandwatch is one of the top 500 Marketing Software products

TOP 10

Brandwatch is one of the 10 Reputation Management Software products

It's crucial to realize that virtually no software in the Marketing Software category is going to be an ideal solution that can meet all the goals of different business types, sizes and industries. It may be a good idea to read a few Brandwatch Marketing Software reviews first as certain software can excel just in a very narrow set of applications or be designed with a really specific industry in mind. Others may operate with a goal of being easy and intuitive and as a result lack complicated functionalities needed by more experienced users. You can also come across services that support a broad group of users and provide a rich feature base, but that in most cases comes at a more significant price of such a service. Make sure you're aware of your needs so that you get a software that provides specifically the functionalities you look for.

PROS: The query wizard has been a huge help in kickstarting a query. It can then be used in customizing your needs. This saved so much time for our team. Has a user-friendly UI in guiding us throughout the entire process.

CONS: Historical data is missing. Brandwatch is only capable of housing mentions within their archive that were put together from older queries. If you're in need of complete coverage, you'll have to pay. An add-on needs to purchased.

PROS: Over my years spent in the digital world, I've been given the chance to look into third party listening devices. One of their biggest mistakes is that while they appear visually appealing, they fail to offer what you're actually paying them for. Brandwatch has been that tool that lets me swim around data pools. It gives me unlimited option in shaping, slicing, and showcasing data.

CONS: What I hate with Brandwatch is their listening programs. A majority of them have data that aren't complete. Without having the right access to some data streams, listening services, in some way, are limited in capturing meaningful samples. But I'm assured that the biggest difference in this industry comes from the UX where the spades are in the hands of Brandwatch.

PROS: Brandwatch is a leader in query writing, especially when you compare it to competitive enterprise-suitable analytic systems. Does excellent monitoring, and you can rely on it completely both in terms of operations and support. I can see there were some top notch designers in charge of the interface, because I don't understand how a tool can be so simple and so helpful at the same time.

CONS: It was a struggle to think of a bad side, as the product really doesn't have any. If I have to be nit picky, I'd probably go for some improvements, social coverage most of all. Still, I've confirmed it even before that making a source request to the company will be enough for them to give you the feature you want, so I'm not particularly worried. They could work a bit on the spam filter, and eventualy sentiment analysis, even if the core of the problem is the industry itself, not them.

But Brandwatch has gone against the grain and proved things differently compared to other tools.

CONS: There's never a perfect product. And there are certain caveats with Brandwatch. Its pricing is a major concern. But the service it offers is highly valuable and is accordingly priced.

PROS: My favorite part is definitelly customer service, as I am supposed to click a single button to solve my problems. I don't know if I can even specify a problem, because ever since I started using Brandwatch in 2012, it has been nothing but easy and straightforward. I'm still learning how to use it, that's true, but that's only because they won't stop introducing new features! The system is simple, but you can do som serious in-depth analysis, in particular to track social conversations to extract information. The recent additions were awesome, I like the Query Wizard and the Rules. Overall, Brandwatch is the least stressful tool I've ever used!

CONS: The Facebook integration is rather week, I miss some information there. However, I don't think it is Brandwatch that has the fault, it's more on the FB side. We also didn't know graphic customization was limited, now we're struggling to make it more brand-centered.

PROS: I've seen for myself that Brandwatch can do miracles for accountants and managers, most of all because it has an amazing customer care team that knows what it is doing. I would recommend it to any team in need of audience segmentation, not just because it is fast and simple, but also because it provides analytic methods no other system can offer. I mean, you simply get to see the whole picture of how you're doing on social networks, and everything is automatically calculated. Personally, I've reduced time despite of the learning curve I had to surpass, and that's because the support team provided a step-by-step training to help me.

CONS: The learning curve, of course. It's not that Brandwatch is so difficult, but it is simply different than other segmentation systems, and experience can't help too much with it. Knowing how demanding research can be, I skipped learning about it, and now I'm using Brandwatch for social monitoring only.

PROS: I'm fascinated with quering, categorization, and usability, and wouldn't mess with data control either. You can see developers knew what they're doing, something I should know after 6 years of working with this system. It's not about praising it, you know, it works! We're creating amazing dashboards for our clients, being also able to control access rather than simply 'listening' to social incentives. Support is outstanding, and I often forget they're not in my team. Thanks guys, you've been extremely patient with me!

CONS: We have a vast amount of data and metadata to analyze, and that's our problem. Brandwatch, however, has nothing to do with it. The tool is just perfect!

It was our first time to employ a social analytics tool, and we couldn't have made a better choice - navigating Brandwatch is so easy, that it seems we've used thousands of similar programs before.

CONS: My only fear is that there is a lot to learn. As a beginner, I'm doing a fairly good job triggering basic functions, but the deeper I go, the more complicated operations become. Some training can be really useul for me.

I'm not that experienced, but I don't think there is a better performer in that aspect. On top of that, we got to involve our account management team, and they're using the charts every day, impressed by how streamlined analysis can be. These can be altered in showing data that you've tagged and what changes should be made to give a represenation of what's being measured.

The most important advantage according to me is that I get to modify previously tagged data in order to measure results more accurately. I honestly don't think that there is a tool that can help me more.

CONS: I get confused when setting up my queries, but I guess that's a matter of embracing the program more accurately. I'm still learning how to work with it properly, and I've set up some programming already. My colleagues say I'll master it in no time, and I trust them.

CONS: There's nothing to really hate. The platform has a bit of learning curve. But that's to be expected from a product that generates robust insights.

Ease of Use

PROS: Brandwatch offers a wide range of Boolean operators, which is vital when selecting search criteria. Thanks to the rules, we got rid of spam and are now refining sentiments, making our categories way more useful and better organzied. The list of variables is just endless, and includes such as workflows, demographics, topics, and so on. We're using it in English only, but international users may be interested to know the tool covers most of world's widely applied languages. Price is good, and updates are regular, there is no reason to skip it.

CONS: I'd prefer a proper iOS app, this way I'm struggling even to access my data on the iPhone. Everything else is great.

Ease of Use

Published on: 25.12.2017 Company Size: More than 100 Employees Industry: Public Relations

PROS: Brandwatch does analysis the easy way, and provides a variety of friendly tools that are incredibly easy to understand. I can confidently say it has revolutionized analytics, allowing you ro make search queries in less than no time. What I like the most is that there are numerous charts one could use to classify information, and which look way better than the boring spreadsheets where I couldn't even explain the information I was displaying.

CONS: The queries can be a bit cumbersome, but that depends on the adjustments you're trying to make, and the data you're adding. Few more integrations would be perfect too, even if in basic versions, and allowing us to pay attention only to the most important metrics.

PROS: Brandwatch is not simply a tech product, it is a life savior. We like the streamlined pricing and the customization, but the real blessing in disguise was customer support. We went through a detailed training, and we've been able to get professional assistance every time we needed it.

CONS: I understand Brandwatch is still work in progress, but some LinkedIn monitoring would be a nice addition. I hope they will introduce it soon!

Ease of Use

PROS: An easy-to-understand User Interface. It comes with colored graphs and metrics that are neatly laid out on the dashboard. Everything is basically simple to look at. These can be altered in showing data that you've tagged and what changes should be made to give a represenation of what's being measured.

CONS: There are certain points of concern. Query setup can lead to some confusion. It would feel as if you need to go back to programming school just to know your way around it. But once you're familiar with things and you know what you really need to do, then everything is second nature.
