  • What about storing graph description languages in the video RAM and render them per scanline? RAM is expensive in early 80s thus framebuffer is not affordable on PC.

  • @Schezuk you can't do that fast enough for 3D ... though it may work for an UI of a single application. Without graphics. But as I don't know of any actual extension card for UI rendering, I have no idea what approach they'd settle on... and 64K on an extension card was doable before the PC era (e.g. CP/M card for the Apple II).
