Pull Down Faucet? Custom Setup

Pull Down Faucet? Custom Setup
I have a pull down kitchen faucet that I like, and I'm not willing to go back to the old style, just so I can use their faucet adapter.I do NOT have washer/dryer hookups, and I live in a small studio. This is what I did for a semi-permanent setup with both hot and cold water (2.0 Cu. Ft. model).Should work with all size models, as they all use the same water supply hose connections (3/4 GHT).1. I tapped into the supply lines under my kitchen sink using (2) Add-A-Tee Valves: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09CZ4J5K8?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1If you only have cold water (0.9 Cu. Ft. model), or you just don't want hot, only buy one of these. It should fit standard kitchen faucet supply hoses. It fit the ones that came with my faucet perfectly. They are 3/8 compression fittings, with gaskets, so they thread easily, fit tight, and you don't need pipe thread Teflon tape.It comes with an adapter (gets you from 3/8 to 1/2) that you want to connect to the side with the ball valve. That way you can shut off the water to your washer, if you still want to be able to disconnect and move it somewhere else for storage. More on that later (step 4).The handle of the valve is the only part of this Tee that feels a little cheap, but it should turn VERY easily. I'm confident that if I'm gentle, it will not break, and there is no reason to be rough with it. Don't force it. If it isn't moving, you're turning it the wrong way. Try it before you install it.2. The adapter to get you from 1/2 NPT to 3/4 GHT, which is what you need to connect the washer water supply hoses: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C1NHD98M?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1This is a 2 pack, and does come with pipe thread tape, which I used liberally on the 1/2 male threads before connecting. This is the one adapter you'll need that does not have a gasket seal.(Gasket seal = no pipe thread tape needed. No gasket = tape)Wrap it around nice and tight, several times. You want plenty of coverage on the threads, but you should still be able to thread the adapter on easily without resistance until it's tight.I attached both adapters to the Tee, very snug, BEFORE installing it to the supply line and kitchen faucet hose under the sink. Use a couple of crescent wrenches and tighten everything really snug, but don't crank so hard you break something.3. The included washer water supply hoses are only 4 feet long, so I bought these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07X53VLPD?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1Measure your distance, and see what you need, but I purchased 12 feet because I routed the hoses behind my cabinets and drilled an exit hole so I wouldn't have to leave my cabinet doors open.To do that, I purchased these 2 items:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07J1GW4RB?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_detailsI used the screws that came with these cable tie mounts, directly into wood, and it worked great. If you put these in drywall, I would obviously get some drywall anchors and screws (flat, not rounded, so they sit flush) to secure the mounts. They work great, and if you ever needed to replace the hoses, all you have to do is cut and replace the cable ties. Then I used a 2.5" hole saw, and installed this cable passthrough: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JMKD92Z?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_detailsBoth hot and cold water supply hoses fit through easily, with room to spare.I like this passthrough port because it's spring loaded, quick install, and works for holes in thicker wood.4. Locking quick connects to disconnect from the washer itself: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08YS5BL7P?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1You can leave the under sink connection permanently, and still disconnect the washer if you need to move it for storage. Just make sure you close your Tee valves BEFORE you disconnect. You will hear a little hiss of pressure when you pop the quick connects off the washer, but as long as the Tee valves under the sink are closed, it will be fine.----------------------------------------------------------------------------I have been using this setup for about 2 weeks now, and it's been amazing. Not one single leak or drop of water anywhere.DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT A LICENSED PLUMBER.I am just a person who was tired of going to the laundromat.I did a bunch trial and error, buying and returning parts, until I made this work.I was very frustrated that I couldn't find a single review or video for somebody that didn't want to, or wasn't able to, use the faucet quick connect. I figured this out on my own, so I thought I'd share my experience for anybody else in a similar situation.BTW, with this setup, you can still USE YOUR FAUCET while you do laundry! It will be down to a trickle while the washing machine is filling, but that only takes a few minutes.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------As far as the machine itself, I love it.I have 2 reasons for 4 stars:1. I don't think the spin cycle is long enough for heavier items (hoodies, jeans, etc.), on any of the wash programs (including heavy/bulky). They come out a little too wet still, and take forever to dry. I figured out you can just set it to "spin only" and spin it again, then hit pause if you don't want it to go the full spin cycle. I usually do an extra 5 minutes, and everything dries significantly faster. Not a deal breaker, but an extra step. If you have a dryer, you probably won't care about this.2. I don't like the lint filter. You don't have to clean it every wash, but it's kind of annoying. It's a mesh bag that clips into the plastic housing. You have to turn it inside out, and pick the lint out with your fingers. The manual tells you to wash it with water, but I don't want all that lint going down my drain, so I pick it out over the trash can. This brings me to my next suggestion: Get a sink strainer. Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CWXLMB8/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1The machine won't spit out that much lint all at once, but some will come out during the drain cycle, and I don't want it to build up in my pipes over time. The sink strainer will catch lint and hair, and you can easily wipe it out after each wash.My last suggestion is this adjustable furniture dolly: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B9Y16RHP?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1The washer has two wheels, but you have to tip the machine to move it, and it's a pain. This dolly has locking wheels, but honestly, the machine never moves while running, so I don't even use them. It might be necessary for the smaller/lighter models though, and it doesn't hurt to have the option.I like this particular dolly because of the slim profile. I can actually fit each foot of the machine in the corners of the dolly, so that it's completely under the machine, without protruding around the edges, and it doesn't make the footprint of the machine any larger.I'm very happy with this setup overall.Doing laundry at home is awesome!Hopefully this helps somebody.

I live in an apartment building with an on-site laundromat. As anyone who's had to use shared laundry facilities knows, it can be a real hassle having to schlep your laundry to the laundry room only to find that all of the machines are in use and/or half are out of service. Not to mention the added expense of paying $2+ per load, per machine. It adds up.

This little washer has been a godsend. I can conveniently do my laundry in my own home and on my own schedule. No more waiting on people who aren't paying attention to their machine cycles or having to check back in to see if any machines have been freed up. And the added privacy of not having to flash my skivvies in front of people while loading/unloading machines is nice, too.

Anyway, regarding everyday use:

As per my review title, it's great! Works just like a regular full-size washer except with maybe 1/3 the capacity (guesstimate). One full hamper's worth of laundry can be split up into 2 - 3 loads, depending on what/how much you're throwing in there. BTW, I don't recommend trying to stuff as much laundry as you can into the tub. Being a pulsator-type washer, overfilling it won't make for efficient washing. Also, it doesn't really fit bulky bedding items like duvets, comforters, and heavy quilts. Unfortunately, I still rely on my apartment building's laundry facilities for those. However, it can handle lightweight bedding items like fitted sheets, flat sheets, and pillowcases/shams just fine.

Operation is simple; it only has five wash modes to choose from, three load size options, and limited cycle customization options. Nothing fancy, just the basics needed to get your laundry clean. Check out the product photos that show the control panel to give yourself a better idea. Wash cycles can be as short as 19 minutes, to as long as 68 minutes depending on what you select.

The spin cycle does an excellent job of removing excess water. It spins up surprisingly fast for such a compact machine and leaves laundry as damp as any regular full-size washer.

Next to the water inlet is a warning label that states not to connect the hose directly to a hot water tap. I do, however, regularly use WARM water and haven't noticed any adverse effect on the machine.

The lint trap inside the wash drum does a good job of capturing lint, hair, and even shredded paper like forgotten receipts or potentially life-changing lottery tickets. However, if you're concerned that any stray lint might clog up your plumbing, you can always get one of those lint traps that attach to the end of the drain hose.

A few tips:

I recommend getting a small dolly if you need the washer to be mobile for easier storage. Unfortunately, the built-in wheels the machine has don't really make for easy maneuvering. Also, make sure the dolly has locking casters to keep the washer from shimmying away from where you parked it during the spin cycle.

This washer can be pretty noisy during agitate cycles and definitely during the spin cycles. If you're able to set it up in a room with a door (like a bathroom), do so to spare yourself from the noise.

I attached the included snap coupling adapter to the faucet on my bathroom sink. I also stuck a faucet aerator inside the adapter to keep water from coming out in a splashing torrent when I want to wash my hands or brush my teeth. I used a 2.2gpm laminar flow aerator since the usual 1.5 makes the washer take a long time to fill with water.

Lastly, don't go nuts with detergent. As with any washer, frivolously pouring detergent with reckless abandon can gunk up the insides of the machine and cause premature wear on the motor and/or pump AND cause the washer to develop a bad smell. For a machine this size, maybe a tablespoon of detergent - MAX - will do.

So I specifically bought this to bucket fill… I live off grid and don’t have any water source to directly hook it to. I have also had the Japanese style ones where there’s a wash cycle on one side and a spin on the other and they’re AWFUL. This is much much better. I had seen a couple reviews stating that they bucket fill this one, but not much info about water usage doing that or how it works, so here’s what I’ve learned so far (please note, this is for the largest model offered):

The system seems to be weight based. Given that it’s hooked up to nothing I can hear the intake pump running at the beginning of a cycle. This will continue until the unit has enough water in it, but how does it know? I played around a lot and decided it’s gotta be weight based, which correlates with the size of load you’re running. So, I put my wash settings on “normal”, change the load size to small, add about 8 gallons of water + the drum 3/4 filled with clothes will get it to start. You’ll see the time for the wash drop from 37 minutes to 34 as soon as it’s got enough water. The cycle size you choose will affect how much water it wants, so I always choose “small” for size and this cuts down on how much water I use.

The same thing happens on the rinse cycle. It drains the water from the wash cycle and wants another 8 gallons to do the rinse cycle. At this point it really depends what I’m washing if I choose to do this or not. I have a geriatric dog that makes a whole lot of laundry throughout the week, and for those items I don’t really worry about the rinse cycle. I’ll let the system run through the beginning of the rinse cycle where it is draining most of the wash water off, pause the program, turn the washer off and back on, and then put it on the “spin only” cycle. This cycle is automatically 27 minutes but I usually run it for about 10 and then stop it again. I use those little $3 Walmart micro fleece blankets for him and after 10 minutes in spin only they come out almost completely dry and smelling super fresh. I’ll hang them on a rack in front of a box fan and they’re bone dry within an hour. I also have a regular household pillow for him as a dog bed and that will spin out and dry super fast (2-3 hours) with the same method. This machine will hold two of the fleece blankets and the pillow at the same time, and get everything very clean on the normal cycle, small size.

For my clothes I do want a rinse cycle so when the washer changes from wash to rinse I’ll let it drain the wash water, add another 8 gallons, and let the rinse cycle run. The main thing I listen for is if the inlet pump is trying to run. If it is, add more water. You’ll have to pause the system every time you’re adding more water or you’ll get an “E3” error, which just means the lid is open.

So, all in all, it is kind of hands on if you’re a bucket filler. It uses between 8-16 gallons of water on small cycle depending on if you want to do a rinse cycle.

Based on other reviews I was cautious to have the drain inlet at the proper height. I drain it to my bathroom sink and it works great. If it’s too low it won’t hold water, too high and the pump isn’t strong enough to drain. The drain hose has a nice moveable gooseneck on it and the power of the pump has yet to be so strong it kicks the gooseneck out of the sink, which has been my biggest fear.

Despite the hands on nature of it, I really love it. It took me about a week of use, using it 2-3x a day to where I felt really comfortable not just standing over it staring and learning the sounds it’s making to know when it needs my attention. Living in a small space I can just attend to it while I’m doing other chores and it doesn’t feel like a pain. This may depend on how much you hate the laundromat or how much access you have to one. There’s only one laundromat nearby but this woman runs a wash and fold out of it and will tie up all the machines until about 3 pm, and then the rest of the community has a mad dash to try to get their stuff in so it feels like sometimes there’s a laundromat nearby, but it’s a huge source of stress to try to time my day around it’s availability.

Other pros: it is really really quiet. I’ll run it at night while my s/o is sleeping and it doesn’t bother them at all. Whether you use the rinse cycle or not everything comes out smelling incredibly fresh. If you want to soak anything, just put it all in with water, soak as long as you want, then run the cycle as you see fit. Will definitely be keeping.

The machine can hold a significant amount of laundry for its size (15 pounds) - which is why I purchased this. It is notably good quality and smart looking so it does not look out of place outside of a closet, in the open, as pictured. That’s hard to find as most top loaders could not pull off a “nice looking” aesthetic. Spin cycle is great and leaves clothes very dry. It came with all necessary attachments to have this up and running in 5 minutes from opening the box. Well packaged and not a scratch on it when delivered (rurally, even). Really impressed with this machine so far! Would certainly recommend. If it holds up to time and usage I would recommend this machine based on specs as it currently outperforms anything in its size/weight capacity and I did a lot of research prior to purchase. Will update review if I note any unreasonable failures.

Absolutely thrilled…sorry I didn’t purchase this sooner…well made… easy to use washing machine and the Black and Decker Brand didn’t disappoint. I placed it on a cart and wheel it into my kitchen. A couple of tips the outtake hose I placed a nylon sock at the end to capture the lint…I also have a big stock pot filled with water to anchor the outtake hose through the handle which sits low into the kitchen sink…no worries about water damage…I’ve ordered the Black and Decker Dryer also. Apartment laundry room…Good Bye! Just to the nylon didn’t work as well as I thought so I purchased from Amazon metal mesh lint catchers that have plastic twist ties…works great!

Love this machine. Works well with little noise,, takes up little space, and can be installed two ways. You can use it as a portable and attach it to your sink or you can use it as a permanent machine by attaching the hot and cold water hoses into your laundry hook up. Definitely worth the price. Which also was great!!!!
