Aug 11, 2023 at 15:28 | comment | added | HappyDog | Also with ICEBARN X: "The clues tell you the smallest number of times you must cross the loop to walk from that clue to the boundary of the entire puzzle." ... I think, by process of elimination, this does not mean "when moving in a straight line", but actually the minimum number of times by any kind of route, which may include bends. It would be helpful if the description were amended to make this clear.
Aug 11, 2023 at 15:19 | comment | added | HappyDog | I'm a bit confused about ICEBARN X. The rules state "The loop must pass at least once through every cell in the 8x8 area." but in your illustrative example, the loop does not pass through the bottom-right square. Which of these is correct?

Jun 28, 2017 at 1:37 | comment | added | TheGreatEscaper | @greenturtle3141 rotary is a slow solve that'll probably happen bit by bit over the course of the whole puzzle, but you might be surprised in how restricted the behaviours of sun/moon and Icebarn actually are.
Jun 27, 2017 at 23:19 | comment | added | greenturtle3141 | I'm legitimately getting nowhere with this, especially with sun/moon, the ice thing, and the rotary thing
Jun 27, 2017 at 14:33 | comment | added | Duncan | Ah, the "nor parts of the loop" helps. I had forgotten that yajilin rule. Thanks! I'll be back in a few months when I've finished the puzzle and/or gone insane.
Jun 27, 2017 at 14:32 | comment | added | TheGreatEscaper | @Duncan yajilin clues are not Xs nor parts of the loop, probably could have made that clearer. You can place Xs next to clues, so crossing the clues might give the wrong idea. (Also, clues are not counted by other clues)
Jun 27, 2017 at 14:30 | comment | added | Duncan | Ah, got it. Also, in the yajilin can the squares with clues be x'ed out? If they can, and are, is the clue still valid?

Jun 27, 2017 at 14:07 | comment | added | TheGreatEscaper | @Duncan the zeroes on the edges are automatically fulfilled, I put them there to satisfy my OCD of having the clues be rotationally symmetric. :D
Jun 27, 2017 at 14:02 | comment | added | Duncan | You're a madman. Gorgeous puzzle. For the Icebarn X one, are the zeroes on the edges automatically fulfilled, or do the paths from those to the outer edge have to step into the puzzle and then get back to the edge without crossing the loop?

Jun 27, 2017 at 7:38 | comment | added | TheGreatEscaper | @greenturtle3141 I mean that it doesn't have to STRICTLY be the closest edge. There can be other directions which are just as close; the black square just means other directions can't be closer.
Jun 27, 2017 at 5:18 | comment | added | greenturtle3141 | "A black square points to the (possibly joint) closest loop edge" Can you clarify what you mean here by "joint"?

Jun 26, 2017 at 3:17 | comment | added | TheGreatEscaper | And the Haisu is intentionally missing a number.
Jun 26, 2017 at 3:07 | comment | added | TheGreatEscaper | I've changed the text, will edit the images when I get back home in a few hours! Thanks for the suggestions.

Jun 26, 2017 at 1:53 | comment | added | NH. | Some suggestions for improvement: add dots to slither link so it looks more like a normal slither link. I would recommend changing the "Laps and Groins" to something a little less crude. Add "complete" to the applicable squares in the second image. Is the upper right region in haisu intentionally missing a number?

Jun 25, 2017 at 22:49 | comment | added | TheGreatEscaper | Yup. It's in the rules! Loop passes over all eyes.

Jun 25, 2017 at 22:48 | comment | added | NH. | What does one eye even mean? Nothing but "thence goeth the line"?
Jun 25, 2017 at 22:45 | comment | added | TheGreatEscaper | @NH yes, only one yellow eye. Also, this has been checked thoroughly. It's also being checked by non-PSE folks as I type. One tester completed their first 8x8 section after four hours of puzzling. Large solve time isn't necessarily an indication of impossibility :)
Jun 25, 2017 at 22:41 | comment | added | NH. | Doesn't seem to have been solved yet. I'm afraid there might be errors. Was there intended to be only one yellow eye?
Jun 25, 2017 at 21:29 | comment | added | boboquack | I went to sleep half an hour before this puzzles was posted - and noone's solved it yet? Must be devilish.
