$\begingroup$ Are you assuming the genuine coin weight is known upfront? $\endgroup$– Kris Van BaelCommented Mar 1, 2023 at 7:02

$\begingroup$ @KrisVanBael No, but I should indeed have mentioned it, now added. $\endgroup$– RetudinCommented Mar 1, 2023 at 8:00

$\begingroup$ There's similarities in our strategies. But I think I'm leveraging the sample-size-differences more. I think the problematic case for you, is when first three measurements are equal and suggest a different weight than the 4th. If my calculations are correct, that case can still have 54 different answers. $\endgroup$– Kris Van BaelCommented Mar 4, 2023 at 22:54

$\begingroup$ @KrisVanBael That case is indeed complex, but I think it is doable/I solved it. Your approach seems superior. In your approach however, I think cancelling fakes are a possibility in many more branches. (..and you currently have no full answer published either). $\endgroup$– RetudinCommented Mar 5, 2023 at 12:05

$\begingroup$ I do not intend to document a full answer. That’s a job for a computer. But I’ll be happy work out a specific case that you wish to challenge. $\endgroup$– Kris Van BaelCommented Mar 5, 2023 at 14:33

How to Tag
A tag is a keyword or label that categorizes your question with other, similar questions. Choose one or more (up to 5) tags that will help answerers to find and interpret your question.
- complete the sentence: my question is about...
- use tags that describe things or concepts that are essential, not incidental to your question
- favor using existing popular tags
- read the descriptions that appear below the tag
If your question is primarily about a topic for which you can't find a tag:
- combine multiple words into single-words with hyphens (e.g. logical-deduction), up to a maximum of 35 characters
- creating new tags is a privilege; if you can't yet create a tag you need, then post this question without it, then ask the community to create it for you
