Allowing there to be no grass where the sprinkler pipe protrudes from the ground wouldn't change the problem as by problem definition the sprinkler evenly waters all grass in a radius around it. As long as the sprinkler pipe is a tiny fraction of the sprinkler coverage. $\endgroup$
