$\begingroup$ Maintaining a 1:1 mapping where (a : Nat) + 0 = 0 is canonically (and potentially only) associated with the equational lemma for Nat.add, (a : Nat) * 1 = a with the equational lemma for Nat.mul, etc. $\endgroup$
