Nov 30, 2023 at 18:17 comment added Timur Shtatland @YouDontSay I agree that polls would be better evidence. Thank you for the comment!
Nov 30, 2023 at 18:13 comment added YouDontSay @TimurShtatland, if you have evidence of lack of pro-Israel protests, fine. But a mere pro-Hamas protest is not evidence of total public opinion. In the US, a small Mid-west town held a pro-Israel protest, and was dwarfed by a pro-P counter-protest. When a pro-I speaker said, "They kidnapped babies," someone in the counter-protest yelled, "kill them all!" So while that happened, it's still not evidence of broad swaths of American sentiment. Maybe polling would be evidence, but not one pic of one kid.
Nov 30, 2023 at 18:09 comment added Timur Shtatland @YouDontSay I think my answer addresses the overarching main point: broad swaths of Iraqi people from very powerful top to the moderately powerful middle to the kids at the bottom support Hamas. Conversely, I have not seen much in terms of support for Israel in Iraq (but plenty of support for Israel in the US).
Nov 30, 2023 at 18:06 comment added YouDontSay @TimurShtatland, the first two points are well taken, but pro-Palestinian protest in Baghdad, albeit with a child sporting a green and apparently pro-Hamas armband doesn't seem to show 'Iraqi support of Hamas' an more than a similar protest in the US would show such. And the US is blue in the info-graphic.

Nov 30, 2023 at 17:58 comment added Evan Carroll He isn't a an elected leader of the state. Full stop. Any attempt to make an unelected militia leader which fights the state a member of the state doesn't hold water. Next up, Cliven Bundy speaks for the USA.
Nov 30, 2023 at 17:47 comment added Timur Shtatland @EvanCarroll I added more references to support my answer. Hopefully, they address your comments. As for your interpretation of the OP's question, unfortunately, I did not find your arguments very convincing. The head of a powerful armed group receiving a high-level delegation from one of the world's most well-known terrorist organizations (Hamas) is not exactly "Ahmad the kunafeh baker on 7th Street". This argument just does not hold water.

Nov 30, 2023 at 17:38 comment added Evan Carroll When they said "who in Iraq" they didn't mean non-government officials. lol. It's in the context of "Did Iraq [(state)] declare outright support". The question is who in the Iraqi state apparatus made the declaration. If I say, who in America wants to realign with the Palestinians, you could answer Rashida Talib, or Ilhann Omar, but on this site I think "Ahmad the kunafeh baker on 7th Street" is a bit of a stretch.

Nov 30, 2023 at 17:23 comment added Timur Shtatland @EvanCarroll The bottom quote directly answers the Q from the OP: "So who in Iraq declared support for Hamas, and in what terms?" The A is: "The head of the Iraqi Shiite armed group". The OP does not specify that the supporter should be in the Iraqi government.
Nov 30, 2023 at 17:21 comment added Timur Shtatland @EvanCarroll Why 0 evidence? The quote says "the Iraqi government issued a statement reaffirming Baghdad’s unwavering commitment to the Palestinian cause. It blamed Israel for the consequences of the attack".
Nov 30, 2023 at 17:02 comment added Evan Carroll 0 evidence for the claim the state of Iraq supports Hamas in the top quote, and the bottom quote is no more to the point then America supports white supremacy because David Duke says so.
