Apr 11, 2023 at 2:58 comment added Mark The Coast Guard is only a second navy during wartime. During peacetime, it's pretty much a maritime police force (with some search-and-rescue duties).
Apr 10, 2023 at 9:50 comment added vsz Indeed, and what pushes the Marines a lot more into the public light, is that in many smaller interventions the army is not used at all. They get used only in the biggest wars, like Vietnam, etc.
