Jan 19, 2023 at 17:57 | comment | added | Schwern | You've got smoothbore and rifling backwards. The L30 is a throwback. Most modern tank guns abandoned rifling decades ago and are now smoothbore. Smoothbore works better with extremely high velocity kinetic (ie. the damage is done by how fast you can slam the projectile into the target) armor piercing ammunition. And it works better with HEAT which you don't want to spin. Rounds are typically stabilized with fins. In contrast, the British like their HESH. | |
