Those factories are extremely expensive to build but fairly easy to destroy. Some US strategists have even suggested Taiwan do this deliberately if invaded asiafinancial.com/…
Apr 10, 2022 at 15:08 | comment | added | Joey Joystick | I am not sure about the semi-conductor industry. China would want this for sure. However, ASML, the only manufacturer in the world that produces machines for the production of the most advanced micro-chips, is not allowed to sell any to China. If China would take-over the Taiwanese chip manufacturing market, it would completely collapse in a very short period of time due to lack of spares and support. So if anything, this is a reason for China not to invade.

Feb 14, 2022 at 5:28 | comment | added | o.m. | It removes a government which, in theory, claims to be a legitimate government of the one China. I would see a resolution of the civil war as more than just "pride" or "glory."
Feb 14, 2022 at 2:05 | comment | added | Allure | I'm pretty confident taking over Taiwan is for ideological reasons of national pride, and not for the kind of gain you're thinking of.

Feb 13, 2022 at 20:03 | comment | added | NoDataDumpNoContribution | "Does taking over Taiwan change the military balance between China and U.S.?" Probably not, the world is huge after all and Taiwan relatively small compared to that.
