May 15, 2018 at 13:21 comment added user2501323 Because UN is a place for discussion. At last, for now. If US somehow places missiles around Russia or China in strike position, UN surely won't help.) But for now, it is a part of post-WWII peace process. And veto right can prevent some agressive steps.
May 15, 2018 at 6:17 comment added Martin Schröder @user2501323 The UN can "block" a war between e.g. the USA and PRC? How?
May 15, 2018 at 6:05 comment added user2501323 @xyious, I think in nowadays world UN can block a big war between superpowers. But it is really don't matters in LIraq/Lybian/Syrian/Yemen/etc conflicts. Yes, potential Iran war can be much bigger. And UN can even claim some sanctions on the US, like after Nikaragua. But would it stop the conflict? I think no.
May 15, 2018 at 6:02 comment added user2501323 @MartinSchröder, this is a really smart comment. Yes, it is not a direct problem to the US. It is problem for US that rising oil prices will be an advantage for Russia, and cries "Trump is a russian agent" may get louder. But also yes, this is not a direct problem for the US, you are right
May 12, 2018 at 0:17 comment added Martin Schröder Why are rising oil prices a problem for the USA? They are currently an oil exporting country. And their main ally in the area Saudi Arabia will also like rising prices. Do you really believe Trump cares about e.g. Japan?
May 11, 2018 at 16:03 comment added xyious Also, what exactly allows the US to take military options ? Are we really advocating ignoring the United Nations and invading a foreign country ? Isn't the United Nations supposed to aid the country getting invaded with their full military might ? (That's china, russia, etc. beyond just US allies)
May 11, 2018 at 16:01 comment added xyious If the rest of the world keeps the deal in place, the sanctions on Iran are minimal. They have to buy airbus instead of boeing, they have to buy volkswagen instead of ford. Also they can't sell oil to the second biggest consumer. Other than that, what's the downside for Iran here ?
May 11, 2018 at 5:58 comment added user2501323 Maybe you didn't read answer? Breaking the deal allows increasing sanctions and even military escalation, so, I just don't understand what's you comment about.
May 11, 2018 at 5:55 comment added user2501323 While the deal was active, it cannot afford US to make more sanctions on Iran. Israel was one of initators of deal breaking, so I think, it have some reasons, and I detailed what reasons it can be. "sponsoring terrorism" etc - it is emotions and modern world template to claim on political opponents, so, please, use logical arguments.
May 10, 2018 at 16:03 comment added xyious I don't understand how your reasons have anything to do with the deal. The deal was exclusively about nuclear weapons and preventing Iran form obtaining them. How does breaking the deal, allowing Iran to develop nuclear weapons, in any way improve the Israel situation or the sponsoring of terrorism that Iran is doing in the area ?
