May 1 at 23:42 comment added Ornate @BioPhysicist No, subscript e is for the electrons in the medium between the electrodes. This is not the same as subscript ext as some of the electrons from the external source gets caputred by the particles in the medium

I made it more apparent that this question is more about understanding the concepts needed to set up the problem. I have no desire to gain any help solving the actual problem. Added to review
