$\begingroup$ So Earth can be my reference level and infinity can be my reference level also at the same time? what justifies this? $\endgroup$

$\begingroup$ @Revo See it with Sea Level analogy. You can calculate height of Burj Khalifa from Sea Level or local ground or Earth's core. These references change nothing. For theoretical purpose, use Infinity. And, for Engineering practices, use Earth. $\endgroup$ Commented Mar 12, 2014 at 20:22
  • $\begingroup$ What do you mean with "theoretical potential"? When you say "it has a very very low theoretical potential"? Do you mean that his potential is close to $0$ (when taking $\infty$ as reference point)? $\endgroup$
